Graf Grannus – Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2004
Born 1988 166 cm (16.1 1/2) Breeder - Heiko Oltmans

In 2004 the Hanoverian Verband turned again to a jumping sire for their Sire of the Year – Graf Grannus. The black stallion is by Grannus (who did not produce many stallion sons of note) out of Goldmädel (Goldlöwe / Goya). He is in fact heavily bred to Gotthard, with the great grey appearing three times on his pedigree.

Graf Grannus was born in 1988 on the farm of Heiko Oltmanns. At his 100 day test at Adelheidsdorf, Graf Grannus was 3rd overall with 130.51 points, and 2nd in the showjumping with 138.04 points. As of 2007 he is the sire of 362 brood mares, 48 of which have been awarded the State Premium title. He has 20 licensed stallion sons, of which Ginsberg, Goodman and Graf Top are the best known. In 1995, his son, Golden was the champion of the Hanoverian Stallion Licensing.

Graf Granus’ progeny who have made a name for themselves in the sport include Gem of India (Michael Whitaker), Kasting Horses Gavi (winner of Euro 146,622 with Helena Weinberg) and Garenio (Todd Minkus). All told he has produced 438 jumping competition horses with 8609 placings – with 42 competing at S level. As at the publication of the 2007 Hanoverian Stallion Yearbook, his progeny had won Euro 544,819.

Graf Grannus has an FN breeding ranking of 131 for jumping talent, with a rather more modest dressage ranking of 106. On the basis of the Hanoverian Mare and Auction evaluations, Gran Grannus has a 150 jumping index, with a negative dressage rank of 86.
