AStorm Gelding by Raffles
|
| All the research of the last 20 years by
industry and independent academic bodies has repeatedly shown that
optimal equine growth, soundness and nutrition is best achieved
in a ‘free range’ situation. Globally with the intensive
‘hot house’ methods of raising valuable stock, problems
are now seen to be arising in adult horses that relate to the unnatural
upbringing. |
OCD – bone chips - is the most tragic of
these (see article by Chris Hector, THM, October 2003) with its
incidence on the increase, causing heartbreak and financial loss
for people investing in these horses. After much research, we
chose to cross the Irish Draught over Australasian Thoroughbreds,
because of the purity of the Irish Draught gene pool, bringing
you the benefits of generations of jumping excellence and temperament
reliability.
Stud sire RAFFLES (ISH) continues to surprise and inspire us with
the quality of his progeny, which have sold all over Australia.
His first crop is now three years old, and they are being broken
in to start work. We have received very enthusiastic reports about
their progress from ecstatic owners.
Raffles was bred here by Kiltoghert Casey RID (imp. Ireland),
the sire of many horses filling the ranks of Showjumping and Eventing
classes everywhere, and sold internationally. Raffles’ dam
was the Lots of Man mare, Kellina, very closely related to Go
And Behold, Advanced Eventer AND Advanced Dressage horse who was
on the WEG squad with Del Ogilvy.
The mares we choose to breed from have a performance history themselves
or are well-related to other significant performers.
We currently have a few youngsters, rising two and three, by Raffles,
as well as other Irish stallions, Coosheen Liam RID (imp Ireland)
and King’s Gold (ISH) plus weanlings. Our prices reflect
the absence of ‘hot-house’ intensive farming practices,
bringing benefits to the buyers. We aim to make it possible for
you to obtain a first class individual raised in optimum conditions
at a persuasive price. |

Proud
of their youngstock
|
| The team at Australian Sporthorse Breeders
embarked on a venture to bring to Australia world class jumping
stock. The aim? To breed, produce and sell on the world market.
Vivant was imported as a three year old in 2001. He is a rising
star, now ‘B’ Grade with wins and placings at major
championships. His is a stellar career in the making. |
One of the three mares imported in 2001, Alondra
(Indorado/Emillion), is on the competition team after having a
foal and already has a fan club - beautiful and athletic and a
real ‘girl’. She is a very exciting prospect.
This season we introduce the three year old colt Conquistador
(Clinton [Corrado] / Heartbreaker / Randel Z [Ramiro ] he has
a powerful, scopey jump: elastic and careful.
Arriving later this year to join our broodmare and competition
teams are young mares by Kannan, Cardento, Colman, Darco, Verdi,
Cassini 1 and Jalisco B. With dam’s sires including Zeus,
Heartbreaker, Voltaire, Papillion Rouge, Brown Boy and Grand Veneer.
All chosen for their individual jumping talent, type and pedigree.
The first two crops of Vivant foals are super - tall, athletic
types with calm and friendly temperaments. His mares have come
from a wide variety of Warmblood, Thoroughbred and Aussie performance
bred backgrounds, and all the foals are typey and attractive.
The future looks very bright indeed. |

|
| Aveden was established by
Kris Bown in 1997, upon his return from attending the World Cup
Finals in Geneva, with Vicky Roycroft and Michelle Lang.
Having also worked for trainers such as Ulli Klatte and Rod Brown,
Kris was inspired to produce Warmblood sporthorses.
Pictured right: Michelle Lang &
Double Cross © Julie Wilson |
Starting out with a Grannus II mare, and a handful
of Thoroughbred jumpers / eventers, Aveden has progressed to boast
a group of lovely broodmares and youngstock with lines such as
Contango II, Grannus II, Aachen, Contact, Falkland, Souvenir,
Sir Tristram and Vain.
Standing by a ‘quality rather than quantity’ approach,
the oldest stock bred are now 4 year olds beginning work under
saddle.
This group includes the young stallion Adagio, by Argentinus,
who will enter the showjumping ring this year. Adagio was granted
Oldenburg studbook eligibility as a foal, and recently passed
preliminary licensing when presented before an Oldenburg Verband
representative.
His first crop of foals from the 2003 season are clearly purpose
bred jumpers, yet with many showing talent also for dressage -
as would be expected with the bloodlines available through the
stud’s mares, complimenting Argentinus and Grannus. The
stud also diversifies the program by including frozen semen sires,
continually improving the gene pool.
Now located on lush river flats south of Beaudesert, Aveden is
becoming an essential checkpoint when searching for potential
stars. |

| Belcam
International |
A
Gelding by Capone.
|
The name Belcam International
is now synonymous as a leader in producing top class Warmblood
horses for the Olympic Disciplines.
Not only have the Belcam horses been bred for some 20
years now, but they are performing with great success in Europe,
the USA, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia, all have
had the pleasure of experiencing Warmblood horses specifically
bred for the highest levels of equestrian performance! |
With the introduction of our youngest imported
Oldenburger stallion Capone, never before have we seen a stallion
which has stamped his progeny with such potent strength! His pedigree
boasts outstanding temperaments for great ridability, which is
a must to obtain the utmost pleasure when riding and performing,
as well as proven performance ability for both Dressage and Jumping.
Now that the first of the Capone progeny are just under saddle,
he has taken the next step in proving the passing-on of his own
great capabilities.
The free-jumping ability shown by the Capone youngsters has nothing
short of stunned us as experienced breeders. They display amazing
scope, serious attention to the jump for such a young age and
most importantly, boldness and the obvious enjoyment of performing
in this manner. A number of the Capone progeny have now been sold
to top jumping homes including Treehaven, Laurie and Annie Lever
in Vic and Arizonica Park, John and son - Darren Cole of WA to
name a couple. With the Capone progeny now in the hands of top
riders for all disciplines, this will give speedy results in proving
him to be Australia’s future premiere sire.
Capone is now in training with Belinda and leading Dressage rider,
Rebecca Fenner, and is expected to be back out in competition
during the 2004 season. Having Already a Novice Championship at
Werribee, Capone’s break from competition was interrupted
by several moves from Queensland to his new home, in the beautiful
Gippsland region of Victoria.
Belcam International still maintains many of its foundation mares
who have borne progeny such as Belcam Glasgow, Belcam Aarchon,
Belcam Gambler, Belcam Aava (Ava) just to name a few, and their
daughters, by premium European stallions, are now leading the
way to further improve the quality of their progeny to new heights.
Belcam International is the home of a thoroughly dedicated and
passionate breeding program where the aim is to continue to strive
for excellence in every facet of Warmblood performance horse breeding.
June 6th will see the second annual Auction for Belcam International
where an outstanding selection of young horses will be presented
for sale. Truly international quality progeny that will certainly
follow in the footsteps of their successful proven siblings.

| Jane
Griffin: Breeding Brilliance.... |

Jane Griffin & Mousetrap
– inspiration for the program |
| My mission was to breed
a sire son from Brilliant Invader and Family Ties to stand for
breeders here and overseas. The two foundation sires selected
themselves, the quantity and quality of their progeny competing
at elite levels in showjumping and eventing, was eye-catching,
especially considering they were ‘re-cycled racehorses’.
What could be achieved by breeding on a far more selective basis?
Both stallions were aged with declining fertility, the window
of opportunity was small. It needed to be done right. It now came
down to selecting the mares and how to do this without data relating
to performance other than the racetrack. Firstly I hunted horse
shows – showjumping and eventing - and looked for standout
performers, both in respect of movement, technique over a fence,
and a way of going. |
For those that grabbed my attention, I enquired
about their breeding from the owner / rider. I picked the brains
of competitors, especially who had been on the circuit for some
time as to the most talented and reliable bloodlines (if I was
to be breeder, I did not want to deal in talented, difficult freaks,
trainability was a must).
Some interesting patterns began to emerge, confirming the old
wisdom, what I began to call ‘substantiated folklore’.
Agricola, Sir Gaylord (who gave us Sir Ivor, Sir Tristram and
Cindy’s Son). The Sir Tristrams had a reputation for being
difficult or hot to ride, except those by Family Ties, who were
regarded as straight forward and very trainable. Blue Peter (Guy
Creighton jumped almost exclusively Blue Peters), Biscay-Marscay,
Blazing Sword, My Babu – Better Boy – Century, Court
Martial – Wilkes – Vain, Stardust-Favored Bay.
I set about putting together a small group of mares with these
genes, selected on type, scope and mechanics of movement, technique
and outlook when freejumping. They were ridden where-ever possible
to assess their attitude and trainability. They were without exception,
a lovely group of mares. Prodigy by Family Ties is the first colt
Breeding Brilliance will stand, to be followed in 2005 by our
Brilliant Invader colt, Windsurfer. |

| Bungaree
Park |
The
best of Europe are at Bungaree, mare by Carthago, foal by Rex
Z
|
| Bungaree Park is a small stud
focused on producing young stock of the finest European jumping
quality. We recognize the high heritability of jumping technique
requires both the dam and sire to have strong pedigrees. The broodmare
base is the strength of any breeding enterprise, particularly with
modern artificial breeding techniques. |
| Bungaree Park boasts mares by Rex Z (dec) international
Grand Prix showjumping son of ‘Mare of the Century Ratina
Z, Carthago Z, Calvin Z (dec), Lux Z, Almé, Crack Z and
Rabino. With these mares we can produce young stock of an excellence
to match, if not exceed that of any imported showjumping bred
horses.
Bungaree Park remains primarily an equine reproduction centre
with limited training facilities, thus we offer most of our horses
as foals and yearlings aiming at affordable prices for those able
to grow and train these youngsters.
Bungaree Park is proud to have produced excellent young stallions
now in the hands of Australian riders and breeders; Cartalmé
Ego Z (Aaron Williamson), Corsica Ego Z (Rod Brown), Luxury Ego
Z (George Riley), Ego Caspian (K. & V. Weir),etc.
For mare owners we well recognise the expense and risk that is
involved in breeding, thus the quality stallions that we stand
are kept at reasonable service fees with an emphasis on assisting
the mare owner to achieve a live, healthy foal. This year we are
standing the Carthago Z son, Camelot Ego Z and the Calvin Z son,
Celeborn Z. They represent two very different styles from which
to choose, complimenting well the limited supply of excellent
quality frozen semen from leading European showjumping stallions
like Lux Z and our newly established ‘French Connection’.
With the assistance of Arnaud Evain, Bungaree is proud to be the
Australian representatives for Groupe France Elevage, a group
of French breeders in the famed Normandy region of France.
In association with GFE, we are proud to present four of the world’s
great jumping sires on a live foal guarantee basis! The stallions
are Barbarian – a winner in Aachen and a member of the French
jumping team. Cabdula du Tillard, who is setting new records for
success with his progeny in the French Cycle Classique, Fetiche
du Pas, a Fontainebleau winner himself, and now the sire of exceptional
progeny, Mr Blue, an international Grand Prix star and already
a leading sire of winners with only three generations in the sport!
At Bungaree, we not only breed great horses, but we pride ourselves
on our mastery of the art of breeding with frozen semen. We can
offer you – and your vet - expert advice on the use of our
semen, or you can send your mare to us, to get her safely in foal.

Copabella
Visage shows his style
|
| Copabella was established in
1997 by Alan and Lesley Hargreaves upon their return to Australia
after some twenty years living abroad. Initially the focus was on
breeding Thoroughbreds for racing, but the family has also been
involved in equestrian training and competition for many years.
They had brought home from America the very successful showjumping
and dressage mare, Toddingham, and the aim became to reproduce her
one-in-a-million talent as well. |
| The search for the ideal husband
ultimately led to the importation of up and coming superstar,
Copabella Visage, who has been a busy boy on all fronts since
he arrived last September. Not only is Toddy happily in foal on
the Hargreaves’ property in Arcadia, so are three more well-bred
mares, and quite a few others dotted right around Australia as
well.
A wonderful example of the modern Warmblood sporthorse, Visage
has great bone, an athletic frame, superior paces and movement,
and an intelligent, calm, trainable temperament. But it was his
breathtaking jumping ability that first got Vicki Roycroft’s
attention when she saw him in Europe in 2003. Now in training
at Mt White with Vicki, he has not disappointed her or anyone
who has had anything to do with him. Within a few months, Visage
had been crowned Champion Five-Year-Old and Champion of Champions
at the Young Horse Dressage and Jumping with the Stars in December,
2003, by highly respected judges, Australian Olympian Gavin Chester
and Arnaud Evain from France. He also pointed himself out of D
Grade, and promptly went on to win his first C Grade class by
seconds. He has already been placed on the Development Squad,
Aiming for Aachen, and Vicki believes he’s got a very good
chance of getting them there too! |

| Equus
Australia Pty Ltd |

Rod Brown and Vita, a mare from
stud matriach, Westend Evita |
| Equus Australian and its directors,
John McMillan and Rod Brown have been leading Bloodstock Agents
for Equestrian Competition horses since the early 1980s, exporting
many hundreds of high level Showjumpers. Unable to buy truly exceptional
jumpers in Australia, they embarked on a high level breeding program
in the early nineties based on the best bloodlines available anywhere
in the world. The brilliant Westend Evita (who represented Australia
at the Seoul Olympics and the World Championships) was the initial
broodmare and selected progeny of hers are keeping her genes in
the breeding program. |
| The philosophy of the stud is simple – breeding
alone is not enough – every sire and every broodmare used
must have been a quality jumper themselves – no exceptions!
We believe that this combined with proven bloodlines will produce
the highest probability of breeding a top performer. Rod’s
experience as Australian Champion Olympic Finalist and Australian
Team Coach has given him enormous experience to view and evaluate
potential sires and the availability of frozen semen has allowed
us to use the true aristocracy of showjumping bloodlines.
We currently have young horses by such greats as Carthago Z, Lux
Z and Calvaro Z (who all jumped at Sydney 2000) as well as Cruising,
and the legendary Voltaire. Our Australian bloodlines include
Imperial Seal, Souvenir, Black Pampas, Sir Tristram, Landscape,
Camillo, Aachen, Sky High, Zadkine, etc. The Australian sires
we have used include Ego (this year’s winner of the World
Cup), Jubilee Bay, Vivant and the imported Trakehner, Trak.
Unlike many studs our horses are out there performing at shows
every week – just as their parents did. We have horses of
all levels for sale, and semen is available at very reasonable
prices. If you wish to see horses jumping rather than just paraded,
feel free to call in and have a look. We would be proud to show
you what our horses can do. |

Stud |
A
fine foal by Fairbanks Catargo.
|
Fairbanks Stud, situated in
the Gold Coast hinterland, follows a long tradition of breeding
rearing and competing horses.
Our principle aim is to breed, raise and train purpose bred competition
horses for the Olympic disciplines. The use of frozen semen and
carefully selected broodmares will help us to achieve this goal. |
| Fairbanks consists of 83 acres of improved pastures,
a 60 x 20 metre indoor arena and 24 stables. Also housed under
the one roof is: a fully equipped laboratory for the processing
of fresh, chilled or frozen semen, crushes for ultrasound inspection
of resident and incoming mares during the breeding season, a phantom
(or dummy) for the collection of semen. This semen is then processed
for various applications such as direct insemination (fresh),
for transport (chilled), or for storage and or transportation
purposes (frozen).
We also provide a range of services at Fairbanks, which include:
the insemination of your mare by a qualified technician, collection
of semen from your stallion for the purpose of freezing or chilling,
or entrance into our studbook “FWQ Warmblood Studbook”.
Our stables constantly house a supply of top quality competition
horses and young stock, should you be in the market to purchase
a horse. We also provide training (horse or rider) and assistance
with the sale of your horse.
We are regularly producing super competition horses, like Fairbanks
Golo (Gelriano - Hidden Emotions). This stunning chestnut gelding
and his rider Jytte Ryden are members of the Queensland Young
Riders Squad and are currently competing at official Novice level
where they have achieved numerous wins and places.
Fairbanks Gangster (Grannus II - Flush On). Together with his
rider Jayden Brown, Fairbanks Gangster is the latest addition
to the Queensland Young Riders Squad competing in official Novice
competitions with wins and placings to their credit. Fairbanks
Gangster is also direct half brother to International Show jumping
prospect Fairbanks Capone.
Capone (Contango II - Flush On XX) is the first Fairbanks bred
horse to compete at International level, having represented Australia
at the 2002 trans Tasman Jumping series in New Zealand. Already
at this young age he is showing potential to go further on an
International career with many wins and placings at World Cup
shows. .
Another jumping star is Fairbanks Catargo (Indoctro IMP Frozen
Semen - Fairbanks Game Girl) This exciting young stallion is just
starting his competition career in showjumping. One of the biggest
highlights to date is the awarding of Supreme Champion Warmblood
Exhibit at the 2003 Brisbane Royal Show. |

The Jubilee Bays can jump and
move and they look good as well.
This colt was sold to China. |
Quality not quantity. We breed
a few of our own foals each year, but we do use exceptional broodmares
– A grade showjumpers.
Jubilee Bay was an outstanding competitor himself with an amateur
lady rider. Trak was imported (and is still owned) by some of the
most knowledgeable riders in Australia – Olympians Rod Brown
and George Sanna, along with John McMillan. Trak’s exceptional
canter and jumping technique are being passed on consistently to
his offspring, along with his amazing temperament, making him the
ideal sire for performance horses. |
| Both stallions have had mares sent to them by
several showjumping and eventing Olympians – you could ask
for no better endorsement.
Progeny from both stallions have proven themselves in all forms
of competition. Jubilee Bay and Trak progeny have been sold overseas.
The exceptional temperaments of these stallions shows in the progeny
– Jubilee Bay has several offspring starring in the Pony
Club arena, and Trak is used over Victoria Police Mounted Branch
mares.
We take pride in being able to offer an excellent service for
our clients. All mares are treated as individuals and as a result
we have an extremely high pregnancy success rate which of course,
is very important. |

Kirby
Park Stud - Megan Jones |
Kirby
Park, Hallmark, Australiam representative at the World Championships
in France..
|
| Kirby Park Stud is 11 years
old this year and we are very excited and proud of what we have
bred. We have been carefully breeding trainable, light weight, athletic
Irish Sport Horses for eventing and the key to our success has been
the quality of our founding Thoroughbred mares. Two of them are
grand daughters of the great Without Fear who goes back to Nasrullah.
The third is grand daughter to Vain who also goes back to Nasrullah.
|
| Elite listed Kirby Park Irish Jester is proof
of all of these traits, proving himself to be a quality 4 star
eventer. He is fast, careful and trainable; he has only been going
for 4 years from being broken in. We are very proud to be taking
him over to Badminton CCI**** this year to take on the best in
the world.
The others we bred early on were sold to young (13 and 14 years
old) students of mine as just broken 5 year olds and these girls
have been able to educate these youngsters and are now going 2
star and 3 star very safely on their athletic Irish Sport Horses.
We have a very good band of seven mares with plenty of jumping
blood, and 3 lovely stallions. We have 4 star eventer, Kirby Park
Irish Hallmark’s full sister, a full sister to Wendy Schaffer’s
4 star eventer Riverside Othello, an Irish mare by Wrestwood Neptune,
an “A” grade show jumping mare and the list goes on.
Our stallions represent a broad band of types of horses. Our Thoroughbred
stallion, Kirby Park Nantamboo goes back to Comic Court and Goldbine,
he has amazing softness and balance both in his movement and his
jump, he is just 16hh so he is perfect for our big Irish mares.
Everything he has on the ground is incredible.
Our two Irish stallions are very different types.
Irish Jordan is out of a double crossed Without Fear and double
crossed Hyperion mare by Irish Enough who is by McCartney. He
is very much in the mould of Irish Jester, they have the same
sire and Jester’s dam is Jordan’s grand dam. He is
very sharp like Jester and is stamping all his progeny with his
great movement and athletic jump, looks like I’m going to
be able to breed some more Jesters!
Wrestwood Neptune is more Irish Hallmark’s type, not as
huge but the same bone; he is a more traditional Irish Sport Horse
type. He was imported from the Welton Stud in the UK to WA as
a yearling by Sir Harry Mallet who owned Neptune’s dam,
who is a full-sister to Ginny Leng’s European Eventing champion,
Priceless – and by the super sire of eventers, Ben Fairie.
Neptune is by one of the most successful eventing sires of all
time, Welton Louis, so he has a depth of successful eventing history
running through his veins. His full brother is Welton Ambassador
and half brother is Welton Envoy, winner of the Kentucky CCI****
2000 with Blyth Tait.
At Kirby Park Stud we are committed to breeding the best eventers
possible. Whatever the mare we have her perfect match. And if
you’re not sure about breeding your own we have a small
selection of amazing youngsters, we are about quality not quantity. |

Ridge (Andrew Inglis and Jenny Sheppard) |

Andrew Inglis & Mr Burns
have their sights set on Athens. |
| How close can you go? Sydney-based
jumping breeder and rider, Andrew Inglis, has had plenty of close
encounters during his illustrious career. The most memorable for
him no doubt being his ‘nearly made it’ reserve rider
status at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, but the best known being his
Grand Prix show jumping partner of many years, the aptly named and
well performed Holstein stallion, Close Encounters. |
| Close Encounters now stands at River Ridge Equestrian
Park and Stud at Wilberforce, on the outskirts of Sydney. From
this magnificent property on the banks of the Hawkesbury River,
Andrew trains jumping riders and horses of all levels. While training
Grand Prix level horses, Andrew also works with his homebred youngsters
by Close Encounters, to prepare them for their competition careers.
The Athens 2004 Olympics are right in Andrew’s sights this
year as he ‘burns’ his way towards selection for Australia’s
one and only show jumping berth. Andrew will be taking his talented
Aussie TB jumping partner, Mr Burns, to Europe shortly, in a concerted
campaign to cement his place as Australia’s most consistently
performed show jumper.
While working hard towards securing additional sponsorship for
this journey, Andrew is also clearing all his young stock on hand
in a bid to raise much-needed funds. So take advantage of this
opportunity and give him a call to talk about a potential dressage
or show jumping star, sired by Close Encounters.
If you could help Andrew and Mr Burns get to Athens - and they’d
certainly appreciate it – your contribution, no matter how
small, can be paid via cheque or EFTPOS to the “Get Mr Burns
to Athens” fund with the ANZ Bank. (BSB 012874 a/c no 5930

Another
quality foal by the super young sire Premier des Hayettes.
|
| It is no surprise to see Concorde
take the place of his illustrious sire, Voltaire, in the World Breeding
Federation Top Ten Jumping Sires of the Year. Many experts predict
the Concorde will be an even more important sire than Voltaire,
who will still be one of the all time greats. Concorde’s dam,
Flyer produced SIX international jumpers – she was by the
great sire, Marco Polo. As of season 2001 Concorde had already sired
17 grand prix competitors, and thirty licensed stallion sons! |
Premier is out of an equally famous mare, Calbonny
by the legendary Dutch stallion, Nimmerdor and out of the Grand
Prix showjumper, Albonnie Z (by Almé) who was in turn out
of the international jumper, Bonnie Alice.
Premier’s half brother – Mozart des Hayettes (Papillon
Rouge-Calbonny) won the French AND the World Six Year Old championship
in 2002.
Premier (Errol to his mates) has already won two World Cup classes
and is proving himself as a sire. Every foal on the ground has
been stamped with his bay, stunning good looks and quality conformation.
Francois Mathy described Errol’s dam line as “One
of the best jumping families in Europe”. With this superior
breeding, unbelievable jumping technique, soundness and trainability,
there is no comparable stallion in Australia.
Congratulations to Sam Lyle, Sean Cooper, David and Elsa Willis,
and many other satisfied clients on the successful arrival of
their Errol babies.

Down Under wins at Jumping with the Stars 2003

Stud Philosophy
As we are a competition stable, any stallion that stands here must
compete. To have a great bloodline is essential, but to be able
to consistently prove themselves during the ultimate test of competition,
is paramount. Only in the arena are we truly testing a stallion’s
temperament, rideability, technique, and the most important ingredient
of all, “genuine carefulness”, the definitive ingredient
of a superstar. |
| Sires that we use must display these
attributes; such a stallion is Cruising. His record is undeniably
outstanding, and he is now proving to be a sire of both international
showjumper and eventers.
Our “failing” as a stud, is that successful competition
stallions become very marketable, the temptation to sell them
overseas is extreme. Our advice to breeders, is to use them while
you can!

- Australia’s Selle Français
Stud |
Ideal
de Valette -representing the best of French bloodlines.
|
| Since the amazing success
of the four Selle Français stallions at the recent World
Championships in Jerez, Spain there has been increasing interest
in the French bred horse in Australia. That interest is growing
every time Jeff Brookfield competes on the spectacularly scopey
Ideal de Valette, a Selle Français owned by Andrew Lupton. |
The young stallion was a sensation in the prestigious
Wentworth Futurity at Australia’s premier jumping competition,
the Tempo Show, where he won the class from one of the toughest
fields ever to compete.
Bloomfield, an experienced Olympic and World Championship rider,
considers Ideal de Valette the best young horse he has ever ridden.
Ideal de Valette is the perfect cross being by one of the greatest
jumping sires ever – Voltaire, who combines illustrious
French blood from his sire Furioso II and the best of the German
jumpers in his dam sire, Gotthard. Ideal de Valette is out of
a mare by one of the immortals of French breeding, Almé.
You don’t have to travel to France to find the best French
blood – it is here, and better still, proving in the jumping
arena that he is more than a ‘paper’ superstar. Ideal
de Valette is the real thing and he, and his progeny, will demonstrate
how a top Selle Français can benefit showjumping in Australia.

| Look at all the most successful
breeding operations in the world – they are based around competitors
and competition. You need a competitive rider to understand what
you are aiming to achieve. At Windurra, the emphasis is firmly on
competition AND breeding. Stud Principal, Boyd Martin is one of
Australia’s leading eventing competitors, and making a name
for himself as an excellent dressage competitor. |
Boyd has been building a broodmare band that brings
together some of Australia’s finest jumping bloodlines –
including Salute, Family Ties, Nice Balance, King of Babylon, Brilliant
Invader and Silveneer. The search for jumping greatness continues
and this year, Boyd has mares in foal to Vivant and the Dutch supersire,
Indoctro.
Windurra has everything for sale from beautifully bred babies to
performance horses out and ready to do the job. |

Wondaree
Fame has produced winners in showjumping and eventing both here
and in the States.
|
| Wondaree Stud started in January
1969 with the birth of a filly foal from the A grade mare, Sheena
(by Humba by Midstream) by Satu Besar. Named Katey Bell (Katey after
me, and Bell after Esther Beliss), she went on to win 39 A grade
events and 9 Grand Prix, ridden by Des Gleeson. Our stallion, Fame
is a full brother to Katey Bell and our other stallion, Dreamtime
is from Katey Bell by Dusky Hunter. |
So all my young stock trace back to Sheena or Satu
Besar, or both, and I have frequently mated the daughters or grand-daughters
of Satu Besar to Dreamtime with excellent results.
I call them ‘My Australian Cool Bloods’ , they are
mostly good tough horses with cool heads, boldness and natural
jumping ability. |

Yalambi
stud has imported mares & fillies to establish a broodmare
band second to none, and this little colt is by German sire sensation
Landor S
|
Yalambi Farm Stud is situated
in the fertile Margaret River region, nestled between two wineries.
The stud was founded in February, 2000 by the Hovell family with
the idea of producing quality international showjumpers with the
bloodlines and ability that many professionals would have to seek
out in Europe.
Yalambi places its main emphasis on the mother line,
and has already built up a very high quality band of broodmares
from very good families, comprising both successful retired competition
mares, and young mares bought in Europe chosen for their excellent
free-jumping ability and quality of temperament. |
| Yalambi’s own young stock have been sired
by international proven sires of the very top European bloodlines.
So far, we have imported 5 mares chosen for their very good free-jumping
ability and quality of temperament:
• Profyta Velvet (Indoctro x Emilion) KWPN 6 yr-old mare
was Champion of Champions in the W.A. Young Horse Championships
in 2003 and won the Bates Young Showjumper for 2003. She has a
2 yr old filly by ‘Voltaire’ who is on the stud.
• Siviola (Wolfgang x Landadel) KWPN - 3 yr-old mare has
an “Emilion” foal at foot – looking very flash.
• Pytani (Calvados x Legaat) KWPN - 6 yr old broodmare –
has a gelding yearling by Celerity Park Starlight.
• Torreya (Hold Up Premier x Nimmerdor) KWPN 3 yr old performing
mare - has a Landor S colt at foot. We have big hopes for this
mare.
• In Flight (Galoubet A) Selle Francais retired Grand Prix
mare from the U.S. – has had two super foals. We have a
Cardinale yearling filly on the stud.
In addition, we have other talented broodmares who have produced
progeny by Corland and Voltaire.
Yalambi has the big picture. We hope that by breeding the best
to the best, we will produce the sporthorse capable of competing
on the world stage.
