At Aurum our dressage breeding programme has
been developing at pace. We have a growing broodmare band
which carries the bloodlines of Weltmeyer, Walt Disney, Rubenstein,
Salute and Medallion to drop a few well known names!
It’s pretty easy to see that we have a view to the classically
successful European bloodlines in the dressage world, however
we are also working on some rather interesting lateral approaches
to the production of dressage brilliance. One of these is
the introduction of selected quality jumping blood into the
classical dressage lines. Of course, this approach is not
a new thing really, some of the leading German breeders at
least have certainly advocated it and it is designed to develop
better power and activity in the hindquarters. This in turn
with a view to improving the passage and piaffe in particular.
In this regard we currently have two colts available by the
well known Regardez Moi out of Flooding line mares. One in
particular (Aurum Riviére d’Or) is endowed with
a staggeringly explosive, elevated and elastic trot. He naturally
passages a foot above the ground! He is definitely superstar
material and has possibly the best movement we have seen in
a foal.
Our dressage mare band is this year carrying babies by stallions
such as Brentano II and DaVinity (Rubinstein/Donnerhall).
Australian dressage breeding is in full motion these days
with the help of selected imported bloodlines (whether via
imported horses or frozen semen) and there is no doubt that
there are locally bred horses available which have the potential
to equal the best in the world with the right training. When
you consider that the cost to import a horse from Europe is
well over $20,000 (after you travel to Europe, select and
buy the horse) it makes real economic sense to purchase equivalent
bloodlines from local breeders. |

DaVinity (pic above) and Alessandro were
imported in 2004 as 2 year olds from Germany and Holland.
Bought for their impeccable pedigrees and movement, you
no longer need to travel to Europe to find bloodlines such
as Donnerhall, Rubinstein, Caprimond, World Cup I &
Sandro Hit.
Both stallions have excellent conformation and movement
with temperaments to match. They are proving to be extremely
trainable and are gentlemen to handle.
DaVinity has three exceptional paces all showing great strengths
for his future in dressage. What other stallion in Australia
has the elite bloodlines of Donnerhall, Rubinstein, Caprimond
and World Cup I?
Five stallions on his pedigree are currently ranked in the
top 15 dressage sires in the world, while three are in the
top 11 for type. Sensational breeding, he is by DaCaprio
(Davignon/Caprimond) and out of a Regazzoni mare - a granddaughter
of the full-sister to Gabribaldi I and II – one of
the most famous mares of the master breeder, Dr Schultz-Stellenfleth.
Exceptional walk and canter with a very elegant and elevated
trot. Outstanding jumping technique with both fore and hindlegs.
Superb temperament and ride-ability. Da Vinity is the perfect
sire to produce that easy-to-ride, manage and train performance
horse.
Bred by Paul Schockemöhle in Germany, Alessandro is
the only son of Sandro Hit standing at stud in Australia.
Alessandro is out of the Grand Prix mare, Alessandria, a
successful producer of many successful young horses at the
Bundeschampionate.
Like Sandro Hit himself, Alessandro has a very powerful,
eye catching trot with super suspension and extraordinary
hock action. While so many Australian performance horses
show weaknesses in the movement of the hind legs, Alessandro
is the ideal sire to rectify this in your breeding programme.
He is showing great promise under saddle. |

To think DRESSAGE is to think CAPONE! (pic
above) No other stallion in Australia today has achieved
what the imported Oldenburger sire Capone has in such a
short time! No matter what bloodline he is bred to, the
resulting progeny produced by this amazing stallion all
have type, character, movement and that something special
which makes them noticed! No matter if you are a novice
rider or a professional, the Capone progeny are doing the
job and bringing home the trophies in all that they enter.
His story is a special one – in that he is history
in the making due to his unique capabilities as a breeding
sire. Having bred with and to so many top classed stallions
over the years, never before has there been one so prepotent
as Capone. At the 2004 final qualifications for the Dressage
With The Stars in Victoria, six Capone progeny competed
for 6 qualifications! 1st to 4th placings all went to the
Capone progeny from a field of 13! At the finals of the
DWTS festival the Capones placed 2nd (on points as couldn’t
compete for champion due to the judge staying with owner),
4th & mid field from the 3 that competed! Never before
has one stallion been represented in this way and these
are only the very first of his foal crop!
Belcam International’s new star is the imp.
Wuttemberger, SIROCCO. A stallion with a pedigree
truly in the blue, with his sire, Sir Oldenburg, being one
of the very few to compete in four Bundeschampionship finals
with a Bronze medal & being acclaimed for stamping his
progeny so strongly!
Most importantly, his dam line of Ruduilore is Oldenburg’s
most famous, with Dressage stallions such as Rubin Royal,
Blue Hors Romanov, D Day & Don Chico and Jumping stallions
Gio Granno & Coleur Rubin just to name a few! Each and
every line of his breeding has proven performance at the
highest levels for all three disciplines. It took 18 months
of exhaustive searching to come up with a stallion of this
magnitude. His accolade being looks, movement, pedigree
& temperament all rolled into one! An extremely rare
achievement. Raved over Australia wide, his fertility is
extreme and first foals are keenly awaited in October.
Belcam International is the Mecca of Dressage breeding with
our June Auction fast approaching. Australia’s Gala
of young horse auctions, over 20 outstanding young horses
will be presented once again in the flair and pageantry
that has become associated with Belcam International in
Victoria! |

Linda Mayer remains a devoted breeder of
jumping horses, but has taken the opportunity to expand
the range of frozen semen in the tank to include the stallions
of one of the most famous studs in Germany – Hengststation
Meyer. Stud master, Jens Meyer is one of the most respected
breeders, and bloodline experts in Germany and his group
of stallions is carefully selected to reflect modern needs
– and they are all selected on the basis of Jens’
insistence that a stallion must come from an exceptional
mare line.
Dacaprio was the first modern dressage star in Jens’
stable. This year, Dacaprio repaid Jens’ faith in
the appealing chestnut, rocketing onto the Hanoverian and
FN breeding rankings thanks to the exceptional quality of
his youngstock.
Jens saw the need for an F line stallion in Hanover, and
hit gold when he found Falsterbo, by the Grand Prix stallion,
Fidermark, out of a mare by Brentano II and again out of
an exceptional mare family.
His Highness created a sensation at the Hanoverian stallion
licensing in 2002, and was sold for a record sum to American
Hanoverian breeder, Douglas Leatherdale. However with over
500 mares a season for the past two seasons, Highness has
repaid Jens’ belief in him.
The semen from Bungaree is being offered in two ways. Either
you can buy three inseminations in the traditional way,
or you can have your mare bred at either Bungaree or a participating
specialist equine reproduction centre, with an in foal guarantee.
Ring Linda Mayer at Bungaree to work out the best way of
breeding your mare to one of these exceptional stallions. |

Pernille Hogg |
Catago’s Pernille Hogg was born in
Denmark where her family breeds performance horses, and
so it was logical for this keen dressage rider to represent
the famed Blue Hors stud of Denmark. Blue Hors has successfully
acquired some of the very top German stallions – and
they are now selling their semen back to Germany!!!
Head of the Blue Hors stallion band is Don Schufro who qualified
for the Olympic Games in Athens 2004. He was second at the
Danish championships and placed at the international shows
in Nörten-Hardenberg, Wiesbaden, Aachen and Lingen.
Don Schufro is the MOST successful result of the magic cross:
Donnerhall over a Pik Bube mare. Don Schufro is the sire
of Don Romantic, Champion stallion in Denmark for the second
year in a row and the Premium stallion Don Caruso.
In keeping with the policy of acquiring the latest bloodlines,
Blue Hors has a magnificent son of Florestan – Future
Cup. Future Cup was winner of the dressage at the material
test in Vilhelmsborg 2000 where he received a perfect 10
for rideability from the judges and the test riders. In
the final at the Bundeschampionate, he was 2nd, but once
again scored 10 for rideabilty. His progeny look very promising
with two champion foals in his first year and he himself
is competing at Prix St Georges level.
Future Cup’s breeding is the best Westfalia can offer.
His sire, Florestan l has had a fantastic career as a breeding
stallion. The grand-sire, Disco-Star produced dressage horses
of the highest quality, and several approved sons and state
premium mares. In the third generation is Apart, who is
sired by Angelo xx.
The R line is the most successful so far in the world of
dressage, and Romanov is by the most successful son of Rubinstein,
Rohdiamant. Romanov was the vice champion in Oldenburg 2002.
His dam sire Grundstein ll sired successful international
dressage horses and showjumpers. The rideability is assured
in the third generation through Akzent ll. Romanov was bred
by one of the world’s great breeders, Haili Siefert
and stems from her exceptional mare family which has produced
a string of top stallions, including Romanov’s full
brother,Rubin Royal, Conterno Grande (who Ludger Beerbaum
is riding at this year’s World Cup final), Couleur
Rubin, D-Day, Gio Granno, Markgraf, Poliac, Tantris and
Weltgold. Romanov passed his 30-days test with 8.7 in dressage
and was fourth overall.
No modern dressage collection would be complete without
a son of the black wonder, Sandro Hit. Soprano Hit is the
first approved stallion in Denmark by the very famous Sandro
Hit. Soprano did his 70 days test in Neustadt Dosse and
was number 12 out of 46 stallions. His sire Sandro Hit has
moved from being a world champion young horse to a world
champion sire in just a few years, and is one of the most
sought after dressage sires in the world. The dam sire Contender
is one of the most significant sires of Germany. His progeny
are characterized by good jumping ability and excellent
rideability. Soprano’s mare line produced horses like
Rubioso N (Ellen Bontje), Lord Kemm (champion stallion in
´89), Continue, Maffay, Calmiro and Farmer. Four fantastic
reasons to talk to Pernille about her wonderful range of
Blue Hors stallions… |

It has been another splendid year for Cloverfern
Stud, with their progeny cleaning up in the ACE assessments
conducted by the visiting Oldenburg Verband
classifier. In the filly assessments, one filly, Cloverfern
Gemima (by Grand Kavalier out of a Thoroughbred mare) had
the 2nd highest score in Australia, with 80% for movement
and conformation, while another Grand Kavalier daughter
placed 10th, but recorded the highest mark for movement
in Australia, a stunning 84.5%. In the colt section, a son
of Spiegel scored 82% for conformation.
Two sons of Grand Kavalier were classified. A five year
old stallion, Grande Farnese, and a two year old colt, VPS
General, who received the highest classification score,
beating imported colts in the process!
Great results for Cloverfern from a totally independent

Breeding goals:
Set in the lovely hilly Yarra Valley, amidst the vineyards.
It is a high rainfall area perfect for producing strong
healthy young horses.
Stud breed program aims to produce foals with very trainable
and willing temperaments, with correct type and conformation,
and extraordinary movement for dressage.
Some of our broodmares are also suited to produce showjumping
talent through their bloodlines.
A recent dream has been to produce Palomino colour into
the program without compromising our aims. We were very
lucky to have added Amigo, now 3 years old, and passed preliminary
ACE stallion licensing. He is by Aachimedes out of Jaybee
Harlow by World Cup showjumper, Skyhigh, and herself out
of a Thoroughbred / Chico d’Oro mare – Chico
d’Oro was the sire of world cup jumping and international
dressage horses. Amigo’s movement shows serious dressage
potential. He passed this on to his first crop of three
chestnut colts, born in 2004: Coldstream Aramis by Amigo
out of a Claredale Champagne Charlie x Thoroughbred mare.
Coldstream Elouise was honoured to win the Premium Foal
Award for the best foal on the ACE tour of assessment 2005
with an astonishing 83.75% overall and 81% for conformation
and 86.5% for movement.
We also produced from eight yearlings, two of the top three
with the colt, Coldstream Wellsprekend and the filly, Coldstream
Jazzcinta by Jazz (frozen semen). Wellsprekend is by Farenheit,
our 4-year-old colt by Weltmeyer. Farenheit is an amazing
mover, out of a head studbook, Kilof McOhl mare.
We also have two ‘D’ line stallions who are
both Donnerhall grandsons, Coldsteam Vienna (by Donnerheist)
and Coldstream Don Juan (by De Niro, frozen semen). Lastly
we have Shahman, by Shahwan Gasb, a Trakehner and Oldenburg
licensed German Arabian, out of a Flaneur x TB dam. Shahman
has a temperament that is just beautiful to deal with. Shahman
does pass this temperament on as well as very pretty looks
and exceptional movement.
I would also like to congratulate Melissa Davies and Coldsteam
Gultier and Janette Chadbolt and Coldstream Frenze on competing
in the Elementary and Novice at the Dressage Festival in
April at Werribee Park. It is very good to see that our
young horses can compete out there and hope we can keep
breeding more from these bloodlines – which were Donnerhall
through their sire, Donnerheist, and Flaneur through both
these horses’ dam lines. Also we are hoping to see
Coldsteam Dante by Coldstream Vienna by Donnerheist, at
the 4 yo Sydney Young Horse, this year, with Sharon Potter
who is very happy with both his talent, and most importantly
his trainable, easy-going temperament. |

When Heather Currie was leaving the famed PSI
dressage barn after purchasing her yearling colt, Mrs Kasselmann
took her to one side: “You have a really special horse,”
she told Heather.
Heather was hoping she was right. She knew that her colt’s
breeding was exceptional. He is by the most famous dressage
stallion of them all – Donnerhall, and out of a mare by
Landadel. Landadel died at the age of only 13 but in his short
stud career became the only stallion to sire World Cup finalists
in both dressage and showjumping in the same year!!!
Still it is hard to really predict what a yearling will become…
Now the waiting is over, and Heather knows what Mrs Kasselmann,
saw in her horse. Now an imposing four year old, Donnerblitz
is exhibiting wonderful rideability and suppleness under saddle
– and the movement is coming. “Everyone tells you
that the Donnerhalls don’t have flashy movement when they
are young, but every now and then I can feel just how much scope
Donnerblitz really has and he certainly has that legendary Donnerhall
temperament and trainability.” Donnerblitz is already
proving a popular sire, and in the hands of a rider who has
already produced Grand Prix horses, he is destined to be a major
player on the Australian scene both as a performer and a sire. |

4ACES represents FLYINGE – Swedish National
Stud and is able to extend to the breeders in Australia and
New Zealand the same World Class Stallions and very favorable
terms, that Swedish breeders enjoy. The semen is available in
Australia at all times and in fact, you only pay a Booking Fee
until your mare is in foal. Should the mare, for some reason,
fail to become pregnant after 4 inseminations there is NO SEMEN
FEE!
As the FLYINGE and Swedish tradition is to breed the very best
international type of horse, 4ACES have selected only the absolute
best and proven stallions, out of the extremely tough selection
of European stallions already selected by the Swedish National
Stud.
Another Swedish tradition is also that we want horses that can
excel in all 4 disciplines: Dressage, Showjumping, Eventing
and Driving. The selection we have made for Australia is therefore
very exclusive, exquisite and exciting!
Some of the top quality foals by these stallions, born in Australia
this season, are now being placed on our web site - as the pictures
are starting to come in from their proud owners.
The stallions have such consolidated bloodlines that they come
through very strongly in their offspring with their abilities,
temperaments and looks. It’s a pleasure to be part of
helping Australia to have more and more international class
horses to ride and breed from.
Although CARDENTO is the stallion most people know as the outstanding
achiever in Show jumping he actually have produced some winners
of the Young Dressage Horse classes as well. AMIRAL, EMMERTON,
BRIAR, RAGAZZO and the Riding Pony POWER BOY, all give superb
talents for the international dressage competition scene.
AMIRAL 764 - one of the very best horses ever - whose semen
we luckily still are able to offer Australian and NZ breeders.
AMIRAL had the highest Dressage score ever at his Classifications
when he was 4,5 years old. 10 for walk, trot, canter and temperament!
He was the highest-ranking Dressage stallion in the world in
1995 and 3rd in 1997, with only Weyden and Donnerhall above
him. Not only does he have the best Dressage bloodlines, he
is the second best breeder of top competition horses in Sweden
with a BLUP index of 146. Only Briar is in front with 154.
Another outstanding sire of Dressage horses is the fabulous,
ever so capable stallion, RAGAZZO 998, the stallion you can’t
fault! Sire: Raphael by Ramiro. Although a dressage wizard himself,
his Breeding Index for Show Jumping 2003 was 139. He won a superior
win at his Stallion Classifications 1994. RAGAZZO is probably
the only stallion that has ever been given SIX 10’s!
He truly has impressive and very solid lines of international
stars in his pedigree and he stamps his offspring. All the foals
by him are simply perfect with fantastic movements, temperaments
and beauty. You can clearly see this magnificent stallion coming
through in every foal. We strongly recommend RAGAZZO as a most
secure investment for the professional breeder of international
competition horses, regardless of discipline!
4ACES also have the pleasure of presenting the living legend
– the international Riding Pony stallion POWER BOY RP
112, who apart from an overwhelming number of dressage offspring,
including Bundeschampionate winners, also has sired many, many
winners of RP Show Jumping and RP Eventing, as well as RP Driving.
An absolute Phantom, that keeps producing top progeny in all
disciplines.
Last but not least, we have the amazing, athletic No1 Dressage
Stallion in the world in competition, BRIAR 899. He also tops
the BLUP index with 154! BRIAR 899 is a horse that “comes
once in a blue moon”, a Superstar! The list of superlatives
about this horse would take up the full page. If you want a
Superstar by a Superstar – this is it! CONDITIONS APPLY.Welcome

Maree Tomkinson |
After she had looked at over 150 foals at the
famed Verden Auction, Maree Tomkinson was quite sure about the
one she wanted. The most exquisite chestnut colt with a strange
triangular white spot on his near fore. He was not only beautiful,
but also well bred, being by the performance test winner, Rotspon,
who combines the dressage talent of Rubinstein with the power
of Argentan, out of a mare of Matcho and Atatuerk breeding.
Now Rodrigo is a five year old, and sweeping all before him
in the Young Horse classes. This is the very model of a modern
dressage horse, with movement, and that very special ‘look
at me’ quality.
Maree also wanted a horse she could get on and ride, and once
again, she went to the top – to Dr Bade, director of the
State Stud Celle. Here she found Frambeau. Despite the fact
that he had performed exceptionally well at his performance
test, Frambeau found himself at one of the larger stallion stations,
standing alongside to Weltmeyer, Brentano II and Londonderry!
Which was lucky for Maree.
Frambeau is now competing at FEI level and with his depth of
classic Hanoverian lines; he has the ability to become a major

From the very beginning the German State Hanoverian
Stud at Celle has supplied the Australian market with their
top dressage stallions through IHB. Weltmeyer and his sons Wolkenstein
11 and Wolkentanz have made a lasting impression in Warmblood
breeding and they continue to greatly influence the quality
of sport horses in the international arena and here.
Celle’s high expectations of their super stallion Rotspon
are now starting to pay off in a big way. In Australia in 2004
we saw Rotspon’s sons coming out in the young dressage
horse competitions and they showed themselves to be quiet, mature,
trainable, and extremely talented youngsters. Rotspon has two
new sons just licensed in Germany and standing at Celle for
2005, namely Rascalino (dam sire Velten Third) and Royal Blend
(dam sire Lauries Crusador). Rascalino was winner of his licensing
and scored an amazing 153.37 in his dressage section. Royal
Blend came Reserve Champion and scored 137.31 in dressage. Both
stallions will soon be bred for the first time in Germany and
Australian mare owners will have the opportunity of breeding
to these two magnificent stallions this coming season. Of course,
many breeders will stick with breeding to Rotspon himself!
Rubin Royal is a stallion worth noting. He is by the Oldenburger
(and Grand Prix competitor) Rhodiamant, Rubin Royal scored 157
in dressage in the integrated breed value estimation and is
highly regarded by Germany’s best authorities as a leading
young sire. He is available for 2005.
It was with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of Olympic
Ferro. Those who may wish to use him for 2005 will need to contact
us as soon as possible.
Some stunning new stallions were introduced last season from
Paul Schockemöhle’s stable. Dressage breeders could
take a look at stallions like Sandro Hit, Don Primero, Lord
Sinclair, and Rosario.
Those who ride dressage know that their own ability is not sufficient
to bring them to the top. It has to be a partnership of horse
and rider. Give yourself the winning edge, breed to one of our
top dressage sires from Europe. Contact Glenis at IHB. |

Well after scaling the dizzy heights at Dressage
with the Stars 2003, winning the 4 yo champion with Jaybee Amelia,
and the 5 yo with Jaybee Alabaster, and Alabaster taking the
Champion of Champions, the first time we have won the big one,
2004 looked like being busy, and it was.
First big show was Sydney Royal, where Jaybee Alabaster won
the Stallion under Saddle and Jaybee Colleen won the filly 3
yo and under and went on to be Champion Exhibit. Jaybee Leuwin
won the Warmblood stallion 4 yo and over and was 2nd to Jaybee
Alabaster in the ridden stallion. Next up was the Sydney CDI***
- Jaybee Alabaster had won the 4 yr
Back home and starring again - Alabaster
Champion in 2003 and to our delight he also won the 5 yo Champion
in 2004. He went into quarantine immediately after the show,
and both he and his rider, Tor Van den Berge, flew to Germany
to contest the World Young Dressage Horse Championships. Tor
and Alabaster went to Ulli and Bianca Kasselman’s gorgeous
Stud and Training Farm in Hagen for six weeks preparation with
Ulf Möller. I think Tor has already written of his adventures
there,
and I am sure his life will never seem quite the same afterwards.
Tor and Alabaster did not win the World Championships, however
they acquitted themselves very well and attracted a lot of favourable
attention for the Australian Warmblood scene.
Alabaster arrived home in September and we decided to bring
him home to serve the mares, rather than keeping him in work
for Dressage with the Stars, which was run in November last
year instead of December. Jaybee Amelia presented us in the
5 yo and was placed 2nd. Jaybee Colleen competed in the 4 yo
class and was placed 6th. Ulf Möller commented on Colleen
“A very beautiful horse, a very modern type, a horse you
could compete on anywhere in the world.” And this is exactly
what Jaybee Farm aims to produce, I was very happy.
Tor rode both mares and did his usual very professional and
enthusiastic job.
We have just started the 2005 show season with a bang. Syndey
Royal was probably the most successful show we have had. The
day started with Colt 3 yo and under. This was won from a big
field, by Jaybee Aquamarine by Jaybee Alabaster, and one of
his first crop. This beautiful 2 yo is owned by Glenda Thomson
and he has been very successful at Queensland Shows, including
being best 2 yo Warmblood Exhibit at Brisbane Royal 2004.
The Warmblood Filly 3 yo and under was won by our Jaybee Collette
(by Carbine), with her full sister, Jaybee Colleen taking out
the 4 yo and over. Champion Exhibit this year was Jaybee Collette,
with Jaybee Colleen Reserve Champion.
On to the ridden classes, and Jaybee Alabaster won the Warmblood
Stallion under saddle at his first outing this year. Jaybeee
Colleen won the mare or gelding under saddle in a field that
included FEI horses.
Toowoomba Royal saw the gorgeous Jaybee Aquamarine, Champion
Warmblood Exhibit at only 2 yo. What a future this lovely has.
Owner Glenda Thomson is a keen and capable dressage rider, and
we look to his future with a great deal of pleasure.
Our next show this year will be the Sydney CDI. Jaybee Leuwin
will compete in the Advanced and the Prix St Georges. Jaybee
Amelia will compete in the 5 yo young horse, Jaybee Colleen
will compete in the 4 yo young horse and Jaybee Alabaster will
have his last young horse start in the 6 yo Young Dressage Horse.
Life will get more serious for him from now on.
We look forward to the remainder of 2005, and all we really
need is RAIN. South East Queensland, only 100 km inland is desperately
dry. |

If you’ve been reading The Horse Magazine,
you will know that the ‘best of the best’ in the
world of dressage are turning to ‘The Horse of Kings’,
the Andalusian and the horse chosen by the Masters of Classical
Dressage, the Lusitano, for their next top grade performers.
Massey Farms has a superb group of young Pure Spanish stallions,
colts and geldings, ready for young, ambitious riders on their
way up in competitive dressage. Why not ride a big, handsome,
powerful, balanced, flexible and light Spanish or Portuguese
horse, whose ancestors were used to formulate the highly skilled
art of dressage?
Leap ahead of Australia’s current international dressage
stars! Prepare to ride one of our 2004 Black Pure Spanish Andalusian
or Black-Champagne Lusitano x American Saddlebred colts, by
Australia’s first Lusitano import – Majodero R of
Massey Farms. Let Massey Farms horses, discover an Australian
rider with a real finesse for dressage, and take them to the
world – this is our mission! However, we do hope to find
more than one understanding, ambitious and most importantly
gentle and patient rider.
Don’t miss this incredible chance. Now there is an opportunity
for seriously competitive Australian Dressage riders to do what
Australia’s Three Day Event riders did from 1992 to 2000,
on world-class, talented homebred horses. In a similar rise
to success, Spain has proven the horses from the Iberian Peninsula
have the ability to excel at Olympic and World Championship
level dressage by bringing home the Team Silver at Athens 2004,
only 12 years on from qualifying for their first ride at the
Olympics in Atlanta, 1996.
Blessings from the past. Australia has benefited from the impeccable
judgement of Ray Williams, Bruce Steggles, Hans van der Drift,
Alice Stainton, Jim Berryman and Mitzi Saunders, the original
importers of Australia’s founding Iberian bloodlines.
Some of which are still near impossible to acquire for export
out of Spain. It is a testament to the dedication of these people,
that a horse such as Assassin of Massey Farms can be bred in
this country. This 17.2 hh Black Spanish Stallion, is derived
from a cross of Spanish and USA imported stock. Fortunately,
neither the Spanish nor Americans possess an equal to him in
quality, size, power and gentle obedience. At 7 years old, he
is almost fully developed and ready to take to the World State.
There is also Pagan MF, a 16.1 hh Silver Spanish Stallion with
a huge personality, great sensitivity, incomparable balance
and magic floating movement. This horse was performing Spanish
Walk when only 3 months of age. Now at the age of 5, he shows
off by performing faultless Spanish Trot, whilst at liberty.
Progeny from these two young sires are being recognized and
purchased by overseas buyers. At this stage, Massey Farms has
been able to retain these two gorgeous boys, but it is only
a matter of time before the offer from the USA for Assassin,
becomes too good to refuse. And unless a serious jockey can
be secured in the very near future, Pagan may also be sold overseas
rather than wasted, waiting for a seriously competitive rider
to give him the International opportunity he deserves.
Investing in the future. Strangely, Australia’s top competitive
dressage riders avoid riding these horses. The Iberian horse
is expected to tolerate more because of its fantastic temperament
and rather than view this as a positive, it has caused this
prestigious hot-blooded breed to lose favour with seriously
competitive riders. The challenge with the Andalusian and the
Lusitano is to ride with astute sensitivity, no force and refrain
from pushing them into hard work during their formative years
(which is much more difficult that it sounds, because these
horse’s minds are so active and receptive to new sights,
sounds and ideas). The most skilled rider will always conscientiously
work on maintaining the Iberian horse’s commanding presence
and highly responsive manners, throughout all exercises, Most
of all, a pre-requisite for riding these spectacular moving
horses, is an admiration of their beauty and complete joy when
working with them. We know it will be the talented young riders
who recognize the value of riding Australian bred horses, to
the top of their field, And these are the people we wish to
support in their quest, as like most enthusiastic youth, we
too have struggled to achieve our goals. And we have vowed never
to forget the brilliance of the horses that spurred our interest
in breeding. If you are a highly motivated dressage rider with
the determination to make your dreams happen, then we will try
to support you, by finding the most suitable horse to achieve
a magical partnership |

We aim to breed horses that bring enjoyment to
their owners. Temperament and trainability along with talent
and soundness are the qualities we seek in our breeding stock.
Our stallions are proven in the performance arena. Whisper (standing
at 17hh), is the best performed import in Australia - Vice Champion
of Germany at 4 years old, Champion of Holland at Advanced dressage
and a winner at International shows.
Above: A foal by Pzazz out of Mayfield Imagine by Rocadero.
In 2004 Whisper was Australian Champion & Advanced Victorian
Champion at Prix St.George and had his first Grand Prix start
at the final round of the World Cup qualifier where he placed
5th.
Whisper's first foals have thrilled the breeders, with long
legs and exceptional temperament being dominant. Whisper is
now being campaigned by Brett Parbery in Sydney.
Chilled semen will be available from October 2005. Frozen semen
is always available.
Pzazz (standing at 16.2hh) Continues to blast through the dressage
grades. After being 2004 Victorian Medium champion he continued
to excel at Advanced with scores over 70%. He was a champion
at Prix St.Georges level and is now scoring up to 64% at Intermediate
1.
His first foals have his engaging character and wonderful balance
and are a very exclusive and sought out group.
Frozen semen is available with excellent fertility. |

This is one breeding operation that knows the
dressage world from the highest levels to the ‘just
started’ stage! Christine Crawford is a Grand Prix dressage
rider, while Jeremy Janjic is a keenly sought after young
horse trainer. The pair has been breeding for 15 years. Their
first foal was a filly, the first of five and the beginnings
of a mare band selected for dressage bloodlines – featuring
Gullit (by Ferro’s sire, Ulft), the Bolero son, Biathlon,
Salute, Don Ramiro, Ilkay, Carbine and now Krack C.
According to Christine and Jeremy: “Our goal is to produce
modern types of international standard, with trainability
and talent. We aim to produce horses for amateurs and professionals
alike.” |

Most people want to own, and be seen riding,
a beautiful, memorable horse that makes them feel good no matter
what the judge’s score. A horse that inspires and draws
you to get up early and ride before work or miss an episode
of your favorite soapy. A horse that makes losing kilos and
keeping fit a pleasure, not a duty.
A horse that even to our non-riding friends and relatives at
least looks like it justifies all the money we spend.
This colt, owned by Katie Guest of Wauchope, is by Echo out
of a Salute/ Gullit mare.
With this in mind, we purchased our latest stallion, Echo, from
the Heathmont Stud in Victoria. Still to prove himself in competition,
he is turning out to be every bit the stallion we had hoped
for. A well mannered, easily trained stallion with super paces
producing quiet foals with good legs, sound conformation, willing
to learn temperaments, and yes, Great Looks!
We have recently built a new 100 acre stud and training centre
about 1 km south of Taree, where we can utilize such facilities
as indoor arena, large outdoor jumping arena, all new yards
and fencing, surrounded by 10,000 acres of State Forest. Here
we can concentrate on producing sound, reliable and affordable
horses from weanling to Grand Prix. |

Revelwood is located on the picturesque coast
of NSW and is focused on breeding quality Warmblood foals. With
a broodmare band of over 20 mares, the focus is on producing
modern, well conformed, sound youngsters. The broodmares have
been chosen not only for their conformation, movement and sound
temperaments but also their genetic potential. With serveral
imported and frozen semen mares, the broodmare band offers some
of the most sort after bloodlines available such as Lanthan,
Donerhall, Weltmeyer and Argentan. Our foundation sire General
Consent (Genghis Khan x Contact) is a long legged horse with
amazing presence. His sire, is a World Cup showjumper and he
carries the line of Cor de la Bryere through Contact in his
dam line. He is a true dual purpose stallion with his jumping
genetics and powerful movement.
Don Ramiro (Don Primero x Pik Bube) is a highly regarded stallion
through his trainabilty and performance and the performances
of his offspring. He is the sire of several talented FEI horses-
TL Ramadon (exported), Daylight and Donizetti to name a few.
Don Ramiro was an exceptional young horse who was training all
the Grand Prix movements as a 5yo although an injury retired
him to stud duties. Ferrero Rocher (Florestan x Weltmeyer) is
the ultimate up and coming stallion. He is competing at Medium
level dressage under Nicolas Fyffe with wins and scores over
70%. He is the complete package- looks, movement, trainabilty
and genetics to please even the most cynical critics. He is
by Florestan out of a Weltmeyer x Pik Bube mare- the same breeding
as Florencio the 2004 World Young Dressage Horse Champion.
Kaptain (Clintino x Sandro) offers breeders the most amazing
opportunity to secure some of the World's best bloodlines right
here in Australia. Kaptain is a compact type with very correct
conformation and suspended ground-covering paces.
Rhodes (Rohdiamant x Acapulco) was imported into Australia by
Jenny and Phil Rapson. He has been trained and campaigned by
Australian Representative rider Matthew Dowsley and is hoped
to be his next Grand Prix star. In 2004 he won Champion of Champions
at Dressage with the Stars. He has big rhythmical floating paces
which make lateral work effortless.
Two new stallions for the 2005 breeding season have just arrived
in Australia Revelwood. They carry bloodlines such as Sir Tristram,
Abalou, Battle Wagon and King of Diamonds. This is an exciting
new chapter in sport horse breeding for Australia. |

Swedish breeding thanks to Jan Brink and the
sensational Briar, is all the rage, and we are lucky to have
in Australia, Magritte, a Swedish stallion, by Magini (also
the sire of Briar) who is also a tried and proven FEI competitor.
In Sweden, Magritte was the most successful FEI horse of the
year in 1996, and in Australia, ridden by his owner, Emma Youngman,
he qualified for the European Championships with a 3rd place
at the Australian Dressage Championships.
Magritte has a unique ability to Piaffe and Passage, showing
a high degree of activity behind and fantastic elevation in
front. He passes on his athletic abilities to his offspring
and also his outstanding temperament. In Europe he was the sire
of Maistic, who was 3rd at the World Young Dressage Horse Championships,
in Australia, his progeny are only youngsters, but stock like
Kirsten Beard-Adams’ Carlyle Park Magrini are proving
what a wonderful sire Magritte is. Best of all he is available
through chilled semen and a live foal guarantee! |
