New members joining at classification time (usually February), presenting mares are required to pay the full year's fees and will be invoiced again in June for the next financial year. Mare registration is not charged until the issue of that renewal notice and covers the upcoming financial year.

Mare Registration
Is charged annually in conjunction with membership. Mares that are either being served or foaling to a registered Hanoverian stallion in that upcoming year, are considered active mares and must pay the full fee. Mares not actively being breeding pay the inactive fee to maintain their Stud Book status. Owners need to advise the Society of the mare's status at the time of issuing of renewals or a full fee will be liable. If the mare is classed as inactive and the owner then decides to breed with her, the difference in fees will be payable before the issuing of any birth certificates for the foal

Stallion Registration
Is charged annually also on the same basis as the mare registration. Stallions are either active or inactive depending on whether they serve registered Hanoverian mares.

Deregistration
Both mares and stallions must maintain their annual registration fees in order to remain in the Stud Book. If no fees are payable for a period of two financial years, the horse will be deregistered. If the owner then wishes to renew the registration, they will be liable for a fee equal to that of the classification fee plus an inactive fee charge for every year the horse was unfinancial. If the horse has changed ownership and the new owner wishes to renew the horse's registration, they are only liable for the inactive fee for each year the horse was unfinancial. No progeny can be registered from unfinancial horses.

Change of Ownership can only be noted on horses that have entered the Stud Book. The new owner is liable for the change of ownership fee plus any outstanding fees, if applicable. The new owner must be a member of the Society.

Change of Name is not usually undertaken, however, only horses that have entered into the Stud Book have their names entered onto their Birth Certificates. Horses entered into the Stud Book MUST be named by the same letter as that of their sire to ensure the continuity of the line and this is usual on birth registered horses also. Thoroughbred horses are entitled to retain their registered names. Stud Prefixes are optional but should remain with the horse for life and only the breeder is entitled to award a prefix.

Foal Registration is payable in full before the foal can be sighted and registered. Foals conceived through transported or frozen semen must be bloodtyped (and their dams if not already done) before any birth certificates will be issued. The foal must be sighted on the dam by a representative of the Society. In the case of orphan foals, previous sighting by a veterinary surgeon may suffice. Foals must be sighted by a vet. if the owner wishes to wean the foal before it can be sighted by a representative, or be bloodtyped. If the foal dies before it can be sighted and the fees have already been paid, a refund may be decided by the Committee.

Foals are branded with the Hanoverian brand on the nearside rump. This is usually done at the time of sighting. If for any reason, the foal has not been branded at that time, papers cannot be issued until the branding has been completed.

Frozen semen foals must be bloodtyped and an imported semen levy of $25.00 per foal will apply. This is payable by the breeder or owner of the foal.

The person who owned the mare at the time of service is considered the breeder. If the mare is sold in foal, the breeder does not change but the new owner's name will be noted on the foal's birth certificate.

The breeder of the foal will be issued with a Service Certificate from the stallion owner. The breeder should then return the bottom section of this Certificate to the Society with the foal's details within 30 days of the foal's birth. The registration fee is also payable at this time.

If the mare aborts, the foal is stillborn or subsequently dies before branding, the mare owner must inform the Society.

The pink Birth Certificates are only issued ONCE. The papers belong to the horse and must be presented to the new owner upon the sale of the horse and returned to the Society upon the death of the horse. The Society recommends safe storage of the Birth Certificates and if postage is necessary, only Registered Post should be used to guard against loss. No Birth Certificate should be altered or tampered with in any way. In the case of errors, the Society should be informed. Any alteration or addition to the paper will make it invalid.
