Aurum’s mission is to produce outstanding International Performance Horses and to see them compete at the highest levels.
Aurum carries some very specific Australian bloodlines that are renowned for producing jumping horses equal to or better than anything else in the world, especially for the sport of Eventing. Aurum has been concentrating and refining these bloodlines for twenty years in order to continue the legacy for Australian Eventing.
What has become known as the Australian Sporthorse derives from predominantly Australian Thoroughbred stock with the addition of various amounts of other bloodlines (most commonly Warm-bloods). These Australian Sport-horse lines have been proven time and again to produce tough, scopey horses with the courage, talent and movement to win Olympic Gold medals as well as numerous other big International titles. These characteristics of toughness, courage and talent are highly heritable traits: bloodlines are important!
The Aurum breeding programme utilises a combination of proven performance mare lines (an aspect often paid lip service) with proven performance sire lines. There is no question that it is possible to breed for all the characteristics that we value in our sport such as movement, temperament, scope, courage, toughness and endurance. The Aurum bloodlines represent a who’s who of Australian Sporthorse history including such luminaries as Brilliant Invader, McCartney, Family Ties, Flooding, Favoured Bay and more.
If previous history is not enough, the past year’s interrupted competition results have shown great performances by several Brilliant Invader horses such as Koyuna Ted (showjumping with Becky Allen), Wendy Schaeffer’s Koyuna Sun Dancer and Koyuna Sun Shine who placed 1st and 3rd respectively in the 3 star at Melbourne 3DE more recently 3rd and 2nd respectively at Wandin in the 3 star class.
A quick look at the Tonimbuk results for this year shows some interesting facts as well. McCartney and Brilliant Invader horses won and/or placed in the 1, 2 and 3star. Even the famed Kirby Park Irish Jester, who added both the Tonimbuk and Lakes and Craters 3 star wins to his long list of successes, is a grandson of McCartney!
Looking at the results of competitions now it’s clear that purpose bred horses are dominating the placings. While dressage competitors have long been known for buying unbroken youngstock on pedigree, eventing and showjumping competitors in Australia have been more inclined to buy something they can ride first. As a result the eventers and showjumpers spend a lot of time sorting out training ‘differences’ while the dressage riders spend the time simply growing the youngster and moulding it to their ways with much less frustration and money spent.
The first comment that visitors to Aurum usually make is that they are surprised how quiet, friendly and correct all of the foals and yearlings are! This is primarily a testament to the terrific bloodlines as well as the basic handling that all Aurum’s foals receive starting right from birth. These youngsters make easy riding horses. They don’t have personality issues. They learn quickly. They have the natural ability to do the work easily. They are sensitive but they are not ‘hot’.
The second comment is usually along the lines of ‘I don’t know which one to choose!’ More than one customer has had a difficult time making a decision between several youngsters since they are all well-bred (of course), have great temperaments, perfect conformation and move extremely well.
This year Aurum have added two new stallions to their band taking the total to six. The new additions are Aurum Rivière d’Or and Aurum Remarquable. Rivière d’Or is by Regardez Moi out of Aurum Belle who is by Floodway (in turn by Flooding out of a Northern Warmblood mare). This combination has produced a stallion with three sensational paces capable of producing top quality eventers. Remarquable is also by Regardez Moi out of Tidal Wave, a three star event mare who was nothing less than a cross country machine! These two young stallions have covered several mares in 2007 already.
Aurum were keen to get breeding statistics on these two new stallions so this year most of their own mares were covered by Rivière d’Or and Remarquable. As a result there will be almost no foals by their Brilliant Invader, Flooding and McCartney stallions in 2008. Readers who are interested in these particular bloodlines would be well advised to snap up one of the remaining current foals or yearlings which are very reasonably priced. Of course, you could always wait until someone else gets them started and pay more!

Australian Eventing & Jumping Horses has been breeding horses for over fifty years, with the main influence being Thoroughbred bloodlines, selecting those stallions and mares that have been known to produce superior jumpers, together with good trainable temperaments, scopey movement and structural soundness. We still have bloodlines from the original mares and are very keen to keep the proven jumping lines of old, available for future breeding.
Dusky Rhythm, bred by us, has been a very competitive horse in the disciplines of Eventing, Showju-mping, Dressage and Led In events and as the last remaining son of Dusky Hunter advertised for stud duties, he offers the proven bloodlines of THM’s stallion of the year for 2005 Dusky Hunter, to those who want to take advantage of bloodlines that are renowned for producing athletes of world class capabilities.
Dusky Rhythm is the perfect thoroughbred stallion for any breeder of Showjumping and Eventing horses. His pedigree and proven family bloodlines which are competing at the highest levels all over the world are hard to match and cross beautifully with both TB and WB mares.
Dusky Rhythm has sired a number of progeny, with many just commencing their careers in Showju-mping, Eventing, Dressage, Hac-king, Led In and Pleasure. He has passed on his wonderful temperament, beautiful type, athleticism and lovely free paces to his offspring – making this the ideal bloodlines for now and in the future, no matter what sort of athlete you want to produce.
Rhythm’s female offspring offer an exciting future when crossed with selected semen from overseas stallions and we look forward to embarking on this outcross next season. It is the Stud’s aim to keep the thoroughbred influence a major force, to retain the natural agility, refinement and super brain found in this wonderful breed, but the Hybrid Vigour of crossing to TB influenced Warmblood stallions is an exciting prospect and we are sure of a very pleasing outcome.

Belcam was one of the first studs in Australia to import top jumping blood, starting in 1984 with the three imported stallions, Valeur, Grannus II and Jaguar. Valeur himself competed in World Cup Qualifiers here in Australia before being sold to Laurie Connell for his rider Jeff McVean to gain more international wins and placings.
Grannus II by the legendary Grannus competed in dressage and showjumping with Ulli in the 80’s and Jaguar was sold to NZ were he produced many jumpers/eventers and dressage horses.
Since then a number of imported stallions have left their mark on the Belcam bloodlines. The most influential bloodlines today at Belcam are the Argentinus, Grannus, Contender and Calido lines. Recently the Belcam breeding operation took another exciting step with the importation of a Contendro / Grandeur mare, in association with Lachlan Emmanuel. The mare came in foal and has recently produced a stunning colt by Numero Uno and now she goes back in work for Lachlan to campaign.
The stallion Belcam Agassi by Argentinus out of a Silveneer mother, has proven himself as a very successful sire of jumping horses. To mention just a few, there is Belcam Alibi who won the 6 yrs old Jumping with the Stars title with Ally Lamb, and Belcam Advisor who also placed very well at Jumping with the Stars and other events, and was recognised by Gilbert Böckmann as one of the most promising young horses in the country. Interesting to note is that Advisor is out of a Grannus II mare. Grannus himself has been an important broodmare sire in Europe, with Grannus mares producing such champions as For Pleasure (Marcus Ehning) and Weihaweij (Franke Sloothaak).
These lines are now being crossed with either Cooperit who is a Contender - Wanderer son, or Hector who is a son of Calido - Cantus - Grannus.
Cooperit is the only Contender son in Australia. Contender also produced horses like Checkmate for Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum who was the most successful German jumper in the 2006 season and Montender was the 2005 European Champion under Marco Kutscher. The 2006 Holstein Reserve Champion Stallion was also a Contender son.
The Calido son Hector has close relatives of international fame, like Eurocommerce Acapulco with Gerco Schroeder, Calgary with Yuka Watanabe, Calwaro with Willi Melliger, Come On with Hugo Simon, Top Gun with Jan Tops and Grannush and John Whittaker. Hector himself has been campaigned successfully and had a win and a second place at Sydney Royal this year.
Belcam Ceasar is another exciting young stallion, and he has been starring with event rider, Kevin McNab, winning his past four Two Star starts.
At the annual Dressage and Jumping with the Stars in 2006, 25% of the entrants in the National Young Showjumper Championships were either directly by Belcam Stallions, a total of 12, or out of mares by Belcam Stallions.

The stud commenced in the mid eighties and was based on a group of mares by the jumping Thoroughbred sire, Balmoral Boy. The aim was to breed showjumpers with consistency of type and ability, with the emphasis on soundness, size and trainability.
The Hanoverian stallion, Daley K was purchased in 1989 because he featured strong jumping lines on both sides of his pedigree. Since then he has sired many successful horses, including some very successful dressage horses.
As part of the breeding program, fillies have been retained from the best mares and the first out-cross foals are outstanding. The stallions used so far include: Trak, Mr Blue, Balmoral Bravo, Mayfield Pzazz and Renegade Z.
We prefer mares that go back to recognized Thoroughbred lines in sporthorse breeding, in particular the great foundation sire, Precipitation. In the future, we will be concentrating on progeny of our Daley K mares (most with Balmoral Boy blood) by selected world renowned jumping stallions.
Young horses are always available for sale. Daley K is now 23 years old and will not stand to outside mares other than by special arrangement.

Copabella has been in operation since 1997, after the Hargreaves family returned from some 20 years living abroad. From a modest beginning on five acres in Arcadia, on the outskirts of Sydney, the business has expanded to encompass 55 acres devoted to the breeding and training of elite sporthorses for the Olympic disciplines.
The breeding programme began with a focus on developing a quality broodmare herd. Selection criteria included performance, bloodlines, conformation and temperament. The foundation mares are primarily imported, with proven performance and impeccable pedigree.
The next ingredient was finding outstanding sires, using the same selection criteria, and another foray abroad was soon on the agenda. The result was, of course, Copabella Visage, probably Australia’s most recognised and loved showjumping stallion. A Pinto Warmblood had not been part of the original plan, but the Hargreaves quickly overcame their colour prejudices when they saw him jump. So highly regarded still is Visage in Europe that there continues to be steady demand for his frozen semen through his French agents, and he is in the process of becoming a fully licensed Selle Francais stallion.
The Broodmare Herd:
Holland Rose, by Quidam de Revel, was imported with a superb Chin Chin colt in utero. (More of him shortly.) Rose’s granddam is the dam of the exciting stallion, Calvados. Rose herself also has a licensed son, as well as two very exciting fillies on the ground in France.
Courchevel, an imported mare on Julia Hargreaves’s successful competition team, is a Holstein / Trakhener cross by Cascavelle. Courchevel is currently turning heads at Mini Prix level. Courchevel’s first embryo-transfer Visage filly is on the ground and looking amazing.
Toddingham, a UK-bred Cleveland Bay cross, was hugely successful in the States both in dressage and showjumping, after being retired by Lesley from an already successful career as an eventer. Copabella has produced five foals from Toddy, each of them a stand-out.
Blue Crystal, full sister to Warlord II, and a very successful, highly regarded showjumper herself, rounds out the herd. She currently has a stallion-quality Visage colt at foot.
The Future: Copabella Cadiz, the Chin Chin colt out of Holland Rose, is rising-three and under saddle. He is an outstanding type in every way, chestnut, already 16.1 and promising to reach 16.3, brilliant movement and an easy-going, highly trainable temperament. He is scheduled to start covering a limited book of mares in the 2008 season.
Redleaf Lodge: Copabella’s jockey, Julia Hargreaves, has recently joined forces with successful eventer Christopher Burton, at their new training and breeding facility in Wilberforce. Visage now stands at Redleaf, and limited spaces are sometimes available for visiting mares, as well as horses for training.

Our breeding program focuses on the use of frozen semen to produce international class competitors. Our resident showjumping stallion Fairbanks Catargo is proof of the success of our program. He was conceived using frozen semen from Indoctro and is out of one of our purpose bred broodmares, by Grannus II.
A competitor at the 2005 World Young Horse Showjumping Champs in Lanaken Belgium, Catargo performed with distinction. Catargo’s oldest offspring have just turned four and are competing in showjumping, dressage and eventing with success.
Horses bred by Fairbanks currently competing in International Sport are: Fairbanks Catargo with Shane Davidson and NV (Fairbanks) Capone and Paula Hamood, members of the Australian Trans Tasman Team.
Other sires used by Fairbanks are Esprit, Le Primeur, Faust Z, Flemmingh, Indoctro and Inferno.
Our breeding and training programs work hand in hand, we not only breed top quality young horses but are also able produce competition horses.
We believe a jumping horse should move well, be well conformed, trainable, and are noticing this with Catargo’s first youngsters who are currently competing.
Catargo is becoming very popular with not only with showjumping breeders, but also dressage and eventing breeders as he is producing a very modern and elegant sporthorse.
Many of the Fairbanks horses are successfully campaigned by Shane Davidson, who is sponsored by Coprice, Saddleworld and Virbac.

4ACES represents the FLYINGE – Swedish National Stud stallions and also a fine selection of the best stallions from the Böckmann Hengststation in Germany. The semen is available in Australia at all times and we guarantee the delivery of full and quality controlled doses.
NOTE: that for the FLYINGE stallions ONLY, we have a very special guarantee: You only pay a BOOKING FEE when you order your semen and should the mare, for some reason, fail to become pregnant after up to 3 inseminations there is NO SEMEN FEE to be paid!
These selected stallions have consolidated bloodlines, which means that they come through very strongly in their offspring with their abilities, temperaments and looks.
CARDENTO 933, ELITE STALLION – based on his outstanding progeny. (Sire: Capitol I, Dam: B-Estelle, Grand Sire: Lord, Great Grand Sire: Ladykiller xx)
CARDENTO 993 is at the top of world showjumping stallions, both in his own performance and as a sire. He was the determining factor of the Swedish Team Silver at Jerez WEG 2002, as well as the Team Silver in Athens 2004.
4ACES now have for sale, the most amazing, tall, strong and handsome yearling colt, LORD CAPITANO, by CARDENTO out of Lady Isle, by Grand Isle. He is a future Olympic competitor – for sure - and will only be sold to someone who will compete and aim for that level and/or to someone who wants an outstanding CARDENTO stallion to breed with. This is a chance of a lifetime for a serious competitor/breeder!
4ACES also have the pleasure of presenting the living legend – the international Riding Pony stallion POWER BOY RP 112, who apart from an overwhelming number of dressage offspring, including Bundeschampionat winners, has sired many, many winners of RP Show-jumping and RP Eventing, as well as RP Driving. An absolute phantom, who keeps producing top progeny in all disciplines. This is a stallion for the younger riders who want to be really competitive or for the rider who wants to breed a superb competition horse that is not so big.
Another outstanding sire of Showjumping horses is the perfect, ever so capable and beautiful stallion, RAGAZZO 998. (Sire: Raphael by Ramiro Z, out of Pirola, by Pik Koenig, by Pik As xx.) You find famous horses like, Ramzes, Cottage Son xx, Frustra II, Futurist I, Abhang II etc. in his pedigree.
Although a dressage wizard himself, Ragazzo’s Breeding Index for Show-jumping 2003 was 139! Better than most “pure” show-jumping stallions. He truly has impressive and very solid lines of international Showjumping stars in his pedigree and has sired many super talents in Show-jumping.
Just to mention one – Rayana Chiara, who sold for EUR 92 000 at the Elite auction in Verden 2003!
4ACES now have for sale, the enchanting, extravagant moving filly yearling, ROZETTA, by RAGAZZO out of a Kingston Rule xx mare. She is perfection personified and is for sale to competition/ breeding home only.
The selected Böckmann stallions start with the big framed, very flashy and ultra talented young CANNAVARO by Cordalme Z, out of a Pilot mare. He is equipped with seemingly unlimited ability and natural technique for showjumping. Every door is open for him on the international arena.
LORD PEZI, by Lacros out of a Zymbal mare is another superstar from Böckmanns. He won the International Showjumping series for 9 years with over 250 000 Euro in prize money! Out of his first progeny, 7 were in the Bundeschampionat!
We are also especially fortunate to have LUXIUS, by Lux Z out of an Acobat ll mare. He is, just like CARDENTO 993, a superbly bred Holsteiner stallion with a pedigree saturated with famous showjumping stallions: Lord, Almé, Capitol, Cor de la Bryère, Gotthard and also the direct Dam line from Landadel. LUXIUS’ sire, Lux Z competed at the Sydney Olympics.

Where-ever you look in the world of showjumping, you find French blood dominating – even in Germany and Holland. Through the leading French breeding group, Groupe France Elevage, Linda Mayer is able to offer a selection of France’s top jumping stallions.
Oberon du Moulin is the ideal sire to breed eventing horses since he is by the Grand Prix showjumping THOROUGHBRED stallion, Laudanum, sire of many Grand Prix showjumpers in Europe. Fetiche du Pas combines two of the legendary stallions: Le Tot de Semilly and Almé – showjumping blood just doesn’t get any better than this. His progeny are starring in French young horse jumping classes.
Take the best of the German and marry it with the best of the French, and you get: Cabdula du Tillard. This stallion is by the Olympic showjumping silver medallist, Abdullah (a German Trakehner) and out of a full-sister to the great French jumper and sire, Jalisco. Cabdula is producing successful showjumpers and eventers, all over Europe.
When he died recently, Mr Blue was one of the most sought after stallions in France. He himself was a Grand Prix star, and his progeny are competing – and winning – at the highest level. Very limited supplies of this semen remain.

Jens and Susanne are famous for their dressage horse stallions, but Jens has always been a jumping breeder at heart, and he always stands just a few really top jumping sires.
This year, Hengststation Meyer introduces Monte Bellini, by the international showjumping star, Montender (Contender / Burggraaf) and out of a Ramiro / Wendekreis mare. Monte Bellini was the champion five year old jumping horse at the 2007 Bundeschampionate with record high scores! This is a very special opportunity to breed to one of the future superstars.
Providence is another exciting young stallion with exceptional technique and brilliant bloodlines. On the topline, the great P line of Pilot, and on the bottom, we once again find Ramiro and Wendekreis.
Providence starred in the freejumping at the 2007 Hanoverian licensing and now under saddle is proving his extreme rideability. This young stallion features top jumping performers in every line of his pedigree.

When it comes to breeding jumping horses it’s the jumping GENES that matter! Breeders know that it costs just as much to raise a foal of limited genes as it costs to raise a foal whose pedigree is packed full of the great internationally renowned names for jumping ability. The aim of breeding is to produce a foal of superior quality and ability that will either sell well in the market place, become a valuable brood mare for your stud or a successful competition horse for yourself. So breeders, concentrate on breeding to stallions and mares with the performance genes behind them, and even better still, with successful progeny as proof of their ability to pass on jumping GENES!
Names of some of the stallion greats come easily to mind… Stakkato, Contender, Furioso II, For Pleasure, Cassini, and before them, Cor de la Bryère, Capitol, Landgraf, Lord, Calypso I and II, Ramiro Z, Sandro, and there are many others we know.
International Horse Breeders Pty Ltd has always offered a terrific choice of frozen AI stallions from some of the best and successful studs in Europe. Their range and quality sometimes makes it hard to choose! This choice coupled with IHB’s good service to clients and ability to deliver semen at the beginning of the season makes them an ideal company to deal with.
Let’s have a preview of the IHB line up for 2008. Although Stakkato is not available himself due to the Hanoverian State Stud Celle closing their book on him to overseas breeders, there are a number of good sons of Stakkato who continue to carry on the heritance of this great progenitors genes. Stakkato has a breeding value for jumping of 173! This stallion is able to pass on his jumping genes in a big way. Celle makes available five of his sons, the newest being Stenograph, a Stakkato x Landadel cross. Another new stallion is Hunters Scendix from Belgium, a Stakkato x Dinar (Disput) cross. Paul Schockemöhle International (PSI) stands Stakkatol, a Stakkato x Capitol - that cross is very popular.
Contender is another undisputed sire of jumping genes. This Holsteiner stallion has a jumping index of 162 and has sired top names, one being Contendro I who is available now through Zucthof Klatte and IHB. Contendro I himself has a jumping index of 167! Not only does the Contender bloodline produce good jumpers, but he also produces movement as well. Celle stands several Contender / Contendro stallions, as does PSI, and a new stallion Chaccomo is a double cross to this Contender line. Zuchtof Klatte introduces Chekandino, a Contender x Quidam de Revel cross.
Two sons of Cassini 1 stand out for 2008. Cassus is by Cassini 1 x Cantus (Celle) and Collado is a Cassini 1 x Landgraf 1 cross (Zuchtoff Klatte).
Some of IHBs most popular jumping sires over the last few years are Balou du Rouet (Baloubet du Rouet x Continue), Champion FP (Champion du Lys x For Pleasure), Converter (Contender x Silvio I) Graf Top (Graf Grannus x Calypso II), Escudo I and his son Elbundy of the Espri line. For those wishing to breed into some French bloodlines you are also well catered for.
Over the last couple of years top names like Dobels Cento, Tinkas Boy, Sandro Boy, Champion du Lys, and For Pleasure have incredibly been made available to Australian breeders. These stallions have been great jumping champions and in most cases have also made a name for themselves as jumping sires as well. Unsurprisingly they are not cheap to breed from, and International Horse Breeders will need your indication of interest by August to place orders overseas for you. This is now also true of Argentinus who sadly died recently, but is still available to the discerning breeder through frozen AI.
Breed for Success. Breed with IHB for 2008. Contact them for a full cataloque.

If you want to breed SOUND jumpers, you need Thoroughbred blood, and over today’s tight, technical courses, it’s the lighter horses with more Thoroughbred blood, who are winning the big classes. That’s why we are so lucky in Australia to have a stallion like Jubilee Bay. Here is a stallion that proved himself in the competition arena, that has a pedigree rich in classic jumping blood, and – best of all – progeny that are out and competing, and winning. The Jubilee Bay’s are ideal for the challenges of modern eventing, since the stallion also proved himself in the dressage arena. One exciting young prospect is Katja Weimann’s young two star eventer, BP Gallantry.
Leading breeders, including Olympic competitor, and former Australian jumping coach, Rod Brown, have used Jubilee Bay – and have found a ready market overseas for these talented youngsters.
Jubilee Bay has been joined in the stallion ranks by his son, Jubilee Favour who adds from another famous jumping line – Camillo. He too is a horse with technique and scope – and the sort of movement that shines in the dressage arena. And he is black!
There is another very very good reason to send your mare to Jubilee, and that is the standard of mare care. All visiting mares are treated as individuals which results in an exceptionally high conception rate… and peace of mind for the mare owner.
Jubilee Stud was the final home of the imported Trakehner stallion, Trak. Sadly his offspring are only now starting to show what a tragic loss he was to the Australian jumping scene, with stars like Triple Treat coming through the ranks. Thanks to the magic of frozen semen it is still possible to breed to Trak – but be quick, quantities are limited at $330 a dose inc gst.

It was 25 years ago that we moved our stud operation from Germany to Queensland in Australia.
Much consideration and thought had been given to which horses should form the base of our stud in Australia with a long-term breeding-plan.
Therefore I chose my own bred stallion Daktylus (Diskus / Absatz / Monitor xx) and Winterkoenig (Woermann / Pik Koenig / Wolfsburg) and our mares: St Pr St Wolfsangel (Wolfsburg / Absatz / Monitor xx), Gold Song (Goldstern / Lateran / Aller / Amateur) and Gina (Goldstein / Pik Koenig / Abhang III / Goldfisch II), combining the bloodlines of some of the most successful stallions - Ferdinand, Domspatz, Gotthard and Absatz.
The purchase of Thoroughbred mares, selected on type and conformation increased our broodmare herd .
The first mating at Kinnordy was Daktylus/Gold Song and resulted in Daley K, now one of the best Warmblood sires in Australia with winning progeny in all disciplines, many exported. Another successful foal from the early years was Wiking (Winterkoenig/Field Officer xx), representing Australia at the WEG in Rome. Remembering the rule of thumb of my mentors of my earlier years to use TB every three generations and keep the best fillies, I kept a full-sister to Wiking , Well & True. Another Warmblood/TB combination brought Wolfgang (Winterkoenig/Piping Rock xx), an Australian dressage champion. However, there was no Thoroughbred in Kinnordy D’Artagnan (by Daktylus out of Gina by Goldstein/Gotthard), licensed and performance-tested stallion and Grand Prix showjumper.
Consequently the next step was the addition of the magnificent Thoroughbred stallion, Silky Baby (USA)xx (What A Pleasure xx / Dark Star xx) in the late eighties in order to enhance the lightness and elegance of the Warmblood mares and the importation of Graf Landau (Genever / Wendekreis / Goetz) in the early nineties to connect back to the lines already in the imported mares, like Gotthard and Ferdinand.
Well & True (Winterkoenig/Field Officer xx), mated with Graf Landau, became the dam of highly competitive and successful horses like Kinnordy Grunelius Legacy in NZ, Kinnordy Gernot (now Walk the Line/ William Fox-Pitt, UK) and younger ones. Fast Kahn xx mated with Graf Landau (the Gotthard line) resulting in Gershwin (stallion and FEI dressage) and KS Genoa (World Cup showjumping WEG Aachen). The list goes on.
Silky Baby (USA) xx’s matings with the Warmblood mares not only produced high quality broodmares but, in particular in connection with the Gotthard lines, successful sporthorses like Kinnordy Serena (out of Genoveva by Graf Landau out of Gold Song)), Grand Prix showjumper, Silkston (out of Gold Song), FEI dressage horse and Domani (stallion by Daktylus out of Sayonara by Silky Baby xx out of Gold Song), showjumper (exported to Japan) and the stallion Kinnordy Goerlitz (Graf Landau out of Pr M Silesia by Silky Baby xx out of Walpurgis by Winterkoenig out of Wolfsangel), Grand Prix showjumper.
My idea had always been the combination of ‘the bold and the beautiful’, in other words, preserve the strength of proven bloodlines and enhance them with genes that give the product the lightness, elegance and ride-ability – showjumpers with movement and dressage horses ‘oomph’.
The recent success of the still young Gymnastik Star and River Dance progeny in dressage, showjumping and eventing proves to be on the right track. An old German saying, relating to my breeding philosophy, is: “Blut ist der Saft, der Wunder schafft” - With blood you can make miracles.

Once upon a time, the ‘experts’ would tell you – ‘you can’t breed for eventers’. Well Kirby Park proved them wrong, and how!
Our homebred, purpose bred, eventers have been overwhelmingly successful in the toughest competition, not just in Australia, in the world.
Of course our superstar is Kirby Park Irish Jester, a winner of the bronze medal team at the World Championships in Aachen.
Kirby Park Jamie starred in the Australian Young Riders team to New Zealand, and has moved to the United States with his rider, Cammie O’Rourke. Kirby Park Joy is another of our up-and-coming stars, a winner last year at the tough Albury Horse Trials.
The results are even more amazing when you consider that Kirby Park only breeds a handful of foals every year!
Currently we are standing two outstanding stallions. Kirby Park Irish Friday is by Jester’s full-brother, Kirby Park Irish Jordan out of WP Ebony, a full-sister to the four star eventer, Riverside Othello.
Of course, if you are going to breed eventers, you must have Thoroughbred blood, and our stallion, Kirby Park Nantamboo is the perfect choice. Here is a Thoroughbred with the sort of movement that wins dressage tests and a soft free jumping technique. All his progeny move and jump like champions. His daughter Kirby Park Joy is typical of his progeny.
At Kirby Park we always have young - and started – stock for sale.

Adam and Heidi Mellers are not just competitors, they are part of the growing Australian jumping horse breeding industry with a high class program based on their imported stallions and a herd of imported purpose bred jumping mares.
“We’ve imported mares by Quidam de Revel, For Feeling and Parco. We are aiming to breed about 12 foals a year. So far we’ve really only bred to our own stallions – we bred to Agassi, and Cooperit, but we will use our new stallion, Elais C, this year to cover Animate’s and Alimo’s progeny. His lines are Clinton / Heartbreaker.”
“We will continue to stand Animate to outside mares, although it might be difficult over the next few months with the Olympic selection trials in Germany. He has done everything we could have asked in the run up, his performance at Sydney Royal was great, his whole program has been based around these Games, now it is time to give him his chance…”
And as a breeding stallion, he has been successful too: “His oldest offspring are just five, and they are really exciting. They are all big, scopey types, and they’ve all got really good canters. He breeds best over the little lighter types of mares, he certainly puts some height into all his progeny.”
“We enjoy the challenge of breeding top jumpers – but for the next few months I guess we are going to be focussed on the competition arena...”

At Sandhills, our breeding plan revolves around 100% international eventing genetics. We aim to breed foals that will exceed in the international arena and we make this aim achievable by using only carefully considered bloodlines. We offer a choice of three stallions to compliment Australian mare owners.
Staccato has been the World’s No 1 Eventing Stallion since 2004 and is now competing successfully at FEI level dressage. Staccato’s breeding is rich in dressage and jumping bloodlines. His progeny are light framed with correct movement and jumping ability. This makes him suitable for Thoroughbred mares whose owners are looking for more movement and cooler temperament but also for the Warmblood mare owners who are wanting a lighter type of stallion. Staccato is the sire of Panamera who is owned by Tim Game and Stuart and Karen Tinney. Stuart has recently taken Panamera to the UK to compete at Badminton with selection for the Olympics firmly in his sight.
Raise A Stanza is a classic type of Thoroughbred stallion with wonderful bone and conformation. Raise A Stanza would currently claim more advanced eventers than any other sire in Australia. These include Dotcom, Scrumpy Jack, Enchanted and Freestyler. His progeny are stamped with amazing paces and galloping ability. We have some wonderful foals by him from our Warmblood mares and event riders are using him more and more over Thoroughbred mares.
Our latest addition this year is Sandhills Bounce who arguably will be the best bred eventing stallion Australia has ever seen. Bounce is by Croftlea Artizan whose stallion line goes to the famous New Zealand Thoroughbreds, Aberlou and Shamal. Bounce’s mare line includes Salute, Double Cream and King of Babylon. There are five stallions in this colt’s pedigree that boast offspring that have competed at Olympic and World Games in Eventing, Dressage and Showjumping. Bounce will only stand to a limited number of mares this season.

Summersea - Ego is a small elite and unique showjumping stud situated deep in the heart of dairy country in Pyree on the South Coast of New South Wales, just two hours from Sydney.
It is elite in that the horses at Summersea boast some of the worlds best bloodlines, many would be impossible to purchase overseas and it is unique in that they were all born in Australia from a vision that started in 1976 with the importation of the Holsteiner stallion Contact by Cor de la Bryère.
With vision, discipline and significant reproduction expertise Linda Mayer has been able to successfully keep up with overseas trends by utilising young sires such as Parco, Lux Z, Carthago Z, Rex Z, Calvin Z before they became too famous and expensive to purchase. This pattern started with the importation of Contact at that time the only horse by Cor de la Bryère (still relatively unknown at the time of purchase) sold out of Germany. Never once in 30 years has there been a departure from pure showjumping breeding and what is now available at Summersea would be elite and sought after in Europe.
Summersea focuses on breeding only. Much of the enjoyment comes from technical competence in reproduction as well as the continuing process of identifying heritable traits needed to produce the modern type of jumping horse. Brood mare numbers are less then 10 and the youngsters kept after weaning are those that are required for a specific breeding project. To this end many superb and unique quality broodmares are regularly sold often to commence their competition career but also to continue breeding for their new owners. This system makes way for the youngsters and so quality theoretically should be improving and type kept up to date.
Camelot Ego Z will again be available via chilled transported or fresh on farm AI. Camelot is rapidly securing the confidence of serious breeders as a sire of showjumping horses. With a limited amount of early coverings, Camelot has consistently produced long-legged, flexible, good-natured youngsters with exceptional jumping ability over a wide variety of mare types. At nine years of age he already has four youngsters competing at the 2008 Jumping with the Stars with many more about to make their debut under both professional and amateur riders.
Young stallions to watch out for: Romany Ego Z (Gavin Chester), Cartalmé Ego Z and Celeborn Ego Z (Aaron Williamson), Ego Casablanca and Ego Parlei (Smith Family, Vic) Luxury Ego Z and Cartalmé11 Ego Z (George Riley), Cor Roman Ego Z and Charlemaygne Ego Z (David Finch) and Ego Creighton (R & V Mulligan).
For those wishing to produce nothing but the best, we are proud to offer Lux Z on behalf of Kedrah House in Ireland. Patricia Nicholson is widely regarded as one of the world’s great Sporthorse breeders, and this is what she has to say about Lux Z: “Lux Z is guaranteed to improve the breeding potential of all mares with his impeccable pedigree, super performance record and is consistency in producing stunning athletic foals.”
Showjumping is breeding.
Bloodlines tend to dictate showjumping technique and skill type. It is highly heritable and not difficult to produce international quality horses. Linda Mayer has always been transparent and open with this knowledge to breeders and riders. One of our aims is to make purchasing or breeding an international quality showjumping horse, an affordable reality for all showjumping enthusiasts.

Yalambi Farm Stud is very privileged to own and stand the approved and licensed Dutch stallion Val D’Isere, who has come from Holland’s VDL Stud. Val D’Isere is by the stallion Atlantic (Acord II x Lord) who was Champion of the Bundeschamp-ionat for 6 year olds, and has since jumped in several Nation Cups for Holland. Atlantic’s dam is the full sister of Lord Z and his full brother is In Style, ridden by Ian Millar for Canada. Val D’Isere’s dam is the Keur mare Nibalia (Nimmerdor x Purioso) who comes out of the famous Balia-line, known for
producing some very good sport horses. At his stallion test Val D’Isere received an 8 for his take-off, technique and ability and an 8½ for his scope.
Val D’Isere is a very handsome, easy to ride stallion, with a cheeky but giving and trainable temperament. He measures 16.3hh, but is short coupled and has a great length of rein. He was very impressive at a recent Gilbert Böckmann clinic and will be out jumping in young horse classes this season. We are thrilled with his first crop of Australian foals as they are all very attractive, good types, and leggy, with friendly and confident temperaments. He will be available for the 2008/2009 breeding season with fresh chilled semen and we give a live foal guarantee.
At Yalambi we are truly a boutique stud, with a small number of very high quality young horses for sale. We have always placed the most emphasis on the mother lines of our horses, and we combine that with the best stallions from Europe, and now with our own European stallion Val D’Isere. Our mares are all very well bred with lines like Hold Up Premier x Nimmerdor, and also Contender, Indoctro x Nimmerdor, and this year breeding our new mares by Cassini II, Quite Easy and Quidam de Revel. They are also good types with a lovely eye and temperament. Corlandia, Crescendo and Waltzing Matilda are our three newly sold young horses to watch out for in the competition arena, to join the already successful Yalambi horses: Indigo, Soltarella, and Ultimate V.

Zangersheide, the Belgium studfarm owned by entrepreneur Léon Melchior, has since its inception (1970’s) been a jumping stable and breeding farm. In the nineties Mr. Melchior set up Studbook Zangersheide which over the years has developed into a studbook that is highly regarded in the industry. Under Leon Melchior’s supervision the stud farm grew into a centre of knowledge and practical know-how and became a trendsetter in modern showjumping horse breeding.
Studbook Zangersheide is a studbook that creates extra value for its breeders and opens a world-wide market for their products. Also a studbook that tries always to “upgrade” the showjumping horse by means of techniques such as AI and ET, which were both developed at Zangersheide, and performs continual research, to drive out OCD (and succeeding!)
“Z” is a quality label of world fame! You, too, can profit from this image which gives additional value to your horses. The DNA-testing to which all foals to be registered in the Z Studbook are submitted, ensures that owners can fully rely on the authenticity of their horse’s papers.
Zangersheide has an interest in expanding globally by setting up representatives in other countries. Zangersheide’s Australian representative is Dolly van Zaane of DvZ Stud, who worked at Zangersheide in their early years. Her knowledge of the Zangersheide stud, and being a breeder of jumping and dressage horses with the DvZ prefix, makes her a logical choice to represent Zangersheide.
The “Z” label is synonymous with quality and to have, since 2007, a wide variety of Z stallions available via frozen semen, of some of the world’s best jumping lines in Australia, is of great interest and value to Australian breeders.
For this second season another great line-up of stallions is being presented: Air Jordan Z (Argentinus x Matador) a horse that is jumping World Cup under Daniel Duesser. His sire Argentinus produced world class jumpers like Anka, Arko III and Olympic stallion Adlantus As; Candillo Z (Cassini I x Grundyman XX x Carneval) who not only had a sensational jumping career, but also produced a string of youngsters at national level from his first three years of breeding, plus six approved sons. Crown Z (Carthago Z x Ramiro Z) out of the world’s best & most famous jumping mare Ratina Z, while his sire Carthago (Capitol) has jumped at the Olympics ; Zandor Z (Zeus x Polydor) – the sire Zeus produced some excellent jumpers (Midnight Madness, Playback, Zypria, Zalza), while his dam Sprehe Padua jumped also at the highest levels ; Asca Z (Askari x Carthago Z) this young stallion (05) made quite an impression at the Holsteiner selections, while his dam sire needs no further introduction; Balougran Z (Baloubet de Rouet x Grannus) his sire is one of the world’s best French sires with Rodrigo Pessoa out of a dam by another world class stallion Grannus. Balougran is arguably one of Baloubet de Rouet’s best sons ; Calvados Z (Chellano Z x Carthago Z) this is a sensational young stallion who was the 5 year old World Champion in 2006, by the legendary Chellano Z by Contender ; Caritano Z (Carthago Z x Coriano Z) this is one the last licensed Carthago Z sons. Coriano Z was, under Judy-Ann Mechior, Belgian Junior Champion; Carthano I Z (Contender x Carthago Z) born in 2004 this one still has to make his mark, but his pedigree combines some super jumping lines; Chicago Z (Caretano Z x Cor de la Bryère) jumps with Judy-Ann Melchior with great success. By Caretano Z who died far too young, out of Calipa Z a daughter of Ratina Z; Chippendale Z (Cento x Cassini I) a double cross to the great grey Capitol I. He is the current 7 year old World Champion and with Jos Lansink has been making quite an impression ; Treasure Z (Tlaloc la Silla x Ramiro Z) sire is famous himself who is by Quidam de Revel while his dam is Ratina Z, bloodlines do not come much better than this ! Level Z (Levisto Z x Bachus Z) his sire is very successful on the international scene with Judy-Ann Mechior. We still have limited doses in stock of: Utah Z (Quick Star x Corrado I) and Cracky Z (Caretano Z x Ramiro Z).
Check the DvZ Stud website for regular updates and news items: www.dvzstud.com For online video clips and pedigrees of the Australian chosen stallions go to:

Zangersheide is not just interested in promoting their stallions via semen sales, but is here for the long haul and is interested in setting up a membership base. Breeders can register their foals with Zangersheide Studbook. Not just a division here in Australia, but the actual Europe based studbook! The fee includes DNA testing and international passport. In the future Zangersheide is also interested to organise their famous Z event (Aussie version) and also sponsor classes at major shows. The ‘Z’ events are world renowned for their professionalism and their openness to new ideas. Many of the now accepted events began at Domain Zangersheide and were the brainchild of Léon Mechior and his team. With Zangersheide Australia we start a new era in Australian Showjumping, because Zanger-sheide makes the difference!
