In 2009 French Showjumper Eric Levallois – Team Gold Medallist at 2002 World Championships – had a very serious car accident and was told he would never walk again. In 2008 his horse that he rode at the World Championships, Diamant de Semilly, underwent three surgeries for colic. Vets didn’t believe that the horse would survive.
During this year’s Selle Français event in France this resilient horse and rider combination were presented to the breeders attending the show. In an emotional return the crowd gave them a rousing applause. A return of two greats. In the video below you can view the stirring presentation, and apart from a noticeable scar on Diamant’s belly, these two look just as good as they did before their ordeals. While the commentary is in French, us mere anglophones cannot fail to appreciate the significance of this moment.
