Heath Ryan’s four star eventer, Mystery Whisper, has been sold to clients of Phillip Dutton – and as part of the deal, Phillip will have the ride on the horse in the trials for the US eventing team to go to the London Games next year. Mystery Whisper is very much Heath’s creation – he bred the horse, started him (when his assistants refused to get on the gelding as it knew how to buck) and took him through the ranks… or perhaps it was Mystery Whisper who took Heath through the ranks, since after his two strokes, Mr Ryan can at times look a little out-of-it going cross country. The horse is by the May Sherif son, Medallion and out of Socialite, who is by Salute, out of a Contact mare, out of a Falkland mare, out of a Monopol mare.

How is that for a back handed compliment! I think, stroke or not, Heath bought Mystery Whisper through the ranks remarkably. His talent, courage and determination have helped him forge on through difficulties that could have derailed someone of lesser character. Well done Heath.
As a mere on-looker – Heath and Mystery Whisper were as one, a true team. They understood each others strengths and weaknesses. Thank you, both horse and rider, for the courageous performances that thrilled so many.
What a bitchy report! Heath with or without a stroke is a better rider than 99% of us and to put such a disparaging comment down is totally unwarranted and is not good journalism.. it is Australia’s great loss that perhaps the most talented eventing horse in this country has been sold overseas.. I for one will miss watching this spectacular pair coming down the centre line in the dressage and galloping cross country.
