With a score of 80.213% Steffen Peters rode his new horse, Legolas (Laomedon x Florestan II x Profi) to second place in his very first competition. They competed at the Thermal CDN Grand Prix in California, USA, where they were only beaten by Steffen’s other Grand Prix ride, Ravel, on a score of 80.426%. Steffen started riding the Westfalian gelding just last month and the horse has proved to be one to watch in the lead-up to the London Olympics; a very handy back-up ride! Steffen’s sponsor, Akiko Yamazaki, bought the horse from Hof Kasselmann in Germany and there were high hopes for the horse, but a debut score of 80% certainly exceeded expectations!

Steffen, who originally planned to take on the horse just for schooling, told eurodressage.com that Legolas “needs to become a bit more confident in the flying changes, but for riding him only three weeks, 20 days to be exact, it was a great start. The fact that Legolas and I were able to enter the show arena relatively quickly certainly says a lot about Ulli Kasselmann’s and Insa Hansen’s training. Both did a great job.”
