Prestige VDL is one of those rare horses that can do two things exceptionally well at once. He is not only proving to be the most perfect Grand Prix competitor for Sheridyn Ashwood, but he is also offering elite Australian dressage breeders a valuable and proven outcross.

As his name indicates, Prestige VDL comes from one of Holland’s most prestigious studs – the home of the family van der Lageweg. In Europe and America, Prestige acquired a loyal following of mare owners who loved the athleticism, the temperament and the sheer rideability of their Prestige foals.

With his concentrated Dutch bloodlines, Prestige offers the alternative to the heavy concentration on German lines in Australia, and the possibility of the Dutch / German cross that is proving so successful in both The Netherlands and Germany. His sire was an Olympic dressage star, while his dam line contains most of the names that have made VDL famous along with some of the superstars of another famous stud, Zangersheide.

The recent trend in Europe has been to add well selected jumping blood to the dressage breeding program, and most of the world’s top dressage horses now, have a good proportion of jumping blood. The aim is not to produce a lot of Prestige foals, but to produce a very few elite, high class individuals that will add lustre to an already stunning career.
