Wellington

Wellington HERO

1980 164 cm Bay

Breeder: P. Kamphof.

Wellington’s dam, Patty is by the famed Thoroughbred, Lucky Boy – or at least we assume she was.

Lucky Boy, late in his breeding career, suddenly started throwing chestnut foals after a career of straight bays. Suspicious, the Dutch Stud book blood tested the foals, but at the time, the tests could only return a ‘could be Lucky Boy’ verdict. Later when the tests were improved, it was conclusively proven that many foals – including all the chestnuts attributed to Lucky Boy – were by another stallion. The Dutch authorities then removed the false ‘Lucky Boys’ from their book…

Wellington passed his 100 day test in 1983, as the reserve champion, with his highest score 9.5 for the driving section. He received straight nines for training behaviour, stable manners and temperament, and 8.5 for the two jumping sections. He competed up to Z level in dressage and jumped nationally up to a metre thirty.

His best known foal was Lady Diana, a 1.40 jumper with Henk Nooren. He also sired Disconto a dressage competitor with Coby van Baalen and Leida Strijk.

He produced the stallion sons, Emilion, Farrington, Glennridge, Ishan du Ceriser and Kevekko.
