Sonja fits her riding career around her work running the family sheep and cattle station called Parkiarrup in Western Australia, where she pursues her other passion of breeding Merino sheep. When she competes in Australia’s eastern states, she has to make a 45-hour journey across 4000 kilometres.

Sonja was named Australian Event Rider of the Year in 1996 and 2003.

She made her international debute in the Australian team at the Trans Tasman, in New Zealand, in 1995.

In 2004, Sonja rode Ringwould Jaguar into fifth place at the World Cup final in Pau. The pair participated a the 2006 and 2010 WEGs, and at the 2008 Games, where Jaguar was 10th and a member of the silver medal winning team.

In 2013, Sonja placed 2nd at Adelaide**** on Belfast Mojito.
