Who's Who

Lichtwark, Marianne

Marianne Lichtwark was born in Freiburg, Breisgau, Black Forest, Germany, and upon finishing high school in 1976, she went on to do her training as a Equestrian Apprenticeship in Münster, with Major A.D. Paul Stecken at the Westfaelische Reit-und Fahrschule E.H .

In 1979 she sat her final examination after a three year Apprenticeship to become a Bereiter with a grade of 80% (“Good”). Then from 1979 -1981 she stayed on training with Paul Stecken, where she furthered her education in Riding and specialising in Administration for Equestrian Centres and Studs. In 1981 she sat her final examination for “buerokaufmann” with a grade “Good” in Administration.

From 1981-1987 Marianne and her late husband, Diplom Trainer Edgar Lichtwark, managed  the Equestrian Centre and Stud of the German Minister of Agriculture, Baron Heereman von Zuydtwck.  The Centre involved running a School with over 150 riders in Dressage, Showjumping, Driving (two and four in hand), Vaulting, and Eventing, up to the highest performance Olympic Levels, whilst also managing the Westfalian Stud with mares, stallions and young stock which had to be prepared for Auctions. During this time 3-4 Bereiter Apprentices trained with Marianne and Edgar under three year contracts, some staying after their exams to further their training.

In 1987 Marianne accompanied Edgar to Australia. They were brought out by Don Scott, the designer and builder of Horseworld Indoor Centre at Maryaylya near Windsor northwest of Sydney.

Following the death of her husband in 2006, Marianne continued to teach her band of loyal and appreciative pupils around Australia.
