Selected for four Olympic Games: Tokyo (1964) reserve rider Showjumping, Munich (1972) Showjumping team abandoned due to horse injury, Montreal (1976) Showjumping team, 9th, Seoul (1988) Captain, Eventing team, 5th.

World Championships Eventing, at Gawler, 1986, 5th individually, team bronze.

Barry has also been a successful coach and an administrator. From 1990 to 2004, National Young Rider coach, with three successful Trans Tasman Young Rider Eventing teams. In 2001, 2012 and 2014, he assisted the Japanese Eventing teams.

He has been an Equestrian Victoria Committee / now Board, member since 1986, and has served as chairman during that time. From 1990 onwards, National Eventing Committee member, 1988 onward, State Selection, 2004 – 2012 National Eventing selector. From 2000 onward, director of Lakes and Craters 3DE and has also been director of Melbourne International Horse Trials.

As a judge Barry has been in keen demand, judging at the 2002 Asian Games, 2007 Pan American Games, Rolex Kentucky **** twice, Bughley ****, Badminton ****, Adelaide **** twice, and at Melbourne CCI*** on numerous occasions.
