Looking at the studbooks, ninety-four horses started in the first round speed class. There were 4 sBs, 5 Westfaliens, 7 from Oldenburg (plus one Oldenburg Jumping), 9 Selle Fran\u00e7ais, 13 Holsteiners, 12 KWPN, and a staggering 15 from the BWP in little Belgium, with just 3000 mares.<\/p>\n

Going into the individual finals we have four from Holstein, four from the KWPN, three BWP, and three Selle Fran\u00e7ais.<\/p>\n

\"Carlo\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Carlo<\/em><\/p>\n

Number one going into the individual round is Carlo, 100% Holsteiner. Second, Vivant, 75% Selle Fran\u00e7ais, 25% Holsteiner. Third, Zenith, 62.5% Holsteiner, 25% Selle Fran\u00e7ais.<\/p>\n

\"QuoridaDeTreho\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Quorida de Treho<\/em><\/p>\n

Fourth – Quorida de Treho, 11\/16ths Selle Fran\u00e7ais, with a dash of Hanover and a splash of Holstein. Flora de Mariposa in 5th<\/sup>, is by Voltaire, half Selle Fran\u00e7ais, half Hanoverian, out of a mare by the Westfalien bred, Power Light out of a mare by the Selle Fran\u00e7ais, Quito de Baussy, out of a Belgian mare of Thoroughbred and Hanoverian breeding on the basis of a few mares who worked the fields amongst the windmills.<\/p>\n

\"ZiroccoBlue\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Zirocco Blue<\/em><\/p>\n

Sixth is Zirocco Blue, 3\/8ths Dutch, one eighth Oldenburg (but by a French Anglo Arab), 3\/8ths Selle Fran\u00e7ais.<\/p>\n

Chiara<\/em><\/p>\n

Seventh, Chiara, 100% Holsteiner; eighth, Utamaro d\u2019Ecaussines, 75% Selle Fran\u00e7ais and ninth, Conrad de Hus, all Holsteiner with lots of the Thoroughbred blood that took the Holstein horse out of the shafts and into the jumping arena.<\/p>\n

\"Diva\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Diva<\/em><\/p>\n

By the time we get to the tenth placed horse, Diva II, we see just how meaningless looking at the scars on their skin is. Diva is a classic example of what my friend Arnaud Evain would dub a \u2018bastard\u2019 as distinct from a \u2018blue blood\u2019<\/a> \u2013 which is apt, since she is by the current star of Arnaud\u2019s stallion team, Kannan, who is a right mix of blood. Three-eighths Selle Fran\u00e7ais, quarter Hanoverian (albeit with a quarter of that Thoroughbred), one eighth Holsteiner, combined with some Gelderlander perfumed with the blood of Holstein and France. Diva\u2019s dam line is equally heterodox: one quarter French Anglo Arab, one quarter \u2018Dutch\u2019 but by an Irish Thoroughbred, one quarter \u2018Belgian\u2019 but by a half-blood Holsteiner, one eighth Hanoverian, and an eighth Gelderlander. Not surprisingly Diva finds her home in the studbook that will take anything as long as the registration fee is paid, the AES. And why not? The traditional studbook is less and less a useful tool of analysis\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
