Last year at Aachen, it was Herman\u2019s cousin, Joris who had four horses he bred in the Nations Cup. My grandfather had horses, Thoroughbreds, ours is a horse family. Primo de Bruy\u00e9res is by the French Thoroughbred, Night and Day, his dam Gazelle d\u2019Aubry carries the blood of two of the great French Sporthorse Thoroughbreds, Fra Diavolo and Furioso. Londy\u2019s dam, Ededee, carries the blood of three influential Hanoverians: Lugano van la Roche (a grandson of the great Thoroughbred, Der L\u00f6we), Fl\u00fcgel van la Roche and Senator, through his son, Sturmwind van la Roche.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have used Holstein and Hanoverian stallions, but the base is French.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What stallions do you use now?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll origins, but they must jump, that is the final point. Every couple of years I have a stallion at the licensing. Last year, my stallion Matisse de Mariposa, was the reserve champion stallion. Matisse is from the same mother line as Flora and Cantinero. He is by Diamant de S\u00e9milly out of Inabelle de Mariposa, by Stakkato, and out of Adeline, the mother of Flora.\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/www.horsemagazine.com\/thm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/pedigree.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24910\" src=\"http:\/\/www.horsemagazine.com\/thm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/pedigree.jpg\" alt=\"pedigree\" width=\"550\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.horsemagazine.com\/thm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/pedigree.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.horsemagazine.com\/thm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/pedigree-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.horsemagazine.com\/thm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/pedigree-500x280.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>How many mares do you have?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have only three horses, the other ones I have given to my younger son. I have retired, my son goes on with the horses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Why are horses important to you?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are everything to me,\u201d he says looking out onto the famous Aachener showground. \u201cWhen they jump at this level \u2013 that\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When he became BWP Breeder of the Year 2014, there were tears in Herman\u2019s eyes.
