Bolero was one of the very first dressage specialist stallions, and a stallion that brought an abundance of Thoroughbred blood to the equation. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Actually his breeding was officially prohibited by the Hanoverian Stud Book regulations of the time, which regulated against the breeding of a mare by a Thoroughbred to a Thoroughbred stallion. Tragically Bolero only stood from 1979 until his death from heart failure in 1987 at the age of 12.<\/p>\n

Brentano ll<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Bolero was a wonderful sire of broodmares, and produced 47 licensed stallion sons, the most important of which are Brentano II and Bismark (sire of Breitling W).<\/p>\n

His son Beltain was the sire of the champion six-year-old at the 2005 Bundeschampionate, Bellissimo<\/a>, who is the sire of Isabell Werth’s World Number One, Bella Rose, although she wears the Westfafen brand.<\/p>\n

Bolero’s influence at Tokyo was largely through his son Brentano II, the product of the breeding program of one of the hugely successful traditional breeders, Dr Max Schulz – and all his horses came from one mare, Duellheldin by Duellant. On the basis of that mare line, Dr Schulz bred SIX of the more famous licensed Hanoverian stallions of recent times.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started in 1964 with Duellheldin. She had two daughters by the Thoroughbred, Marcio, and out from one of those mares, Marbel, we bred Garibaldi I in 1971 and Garibaldi II.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marbel’s daughter, Ferbel, by the famous Ferdinand, \u00a0when bred to Grande, produced Glocke, the dam of the Brentano II.<\/p>\n

Brentano II was the sire of Belstaff (out of a De Niro \/ Weltmeyer mare) ridden at Tokyo by the Korean, Dong Seon Kim. For the rest, Brentano’s influence has been felt through the mare lines. Thus we have the Italian rider, Francesco Zaza’s Whispering Romance, by Weltmeyer, but out of Babs who is by the Bolero son Bergkrstall, with another ‘W’ cross on the mare line, World Cup II.<\/p>\n

Desperados, sire of Simone Pearce’s Destano, also an Olympian in London 2012 with Kristine Br\u00f6ring-Sprehe<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Simone Pearce’s Destano, is by the De Niro son, Desperados FRH, out of a daughter of Brentano II. Adrienne Lyle’s Salvino is by Sandro Hit and out of a Donnerhall \/ Brentano II mare. Shingo Hayashi rode another Sandro Hit, Scolari – out of a mare by Brentano II, while Nicholas Wagner Ehlinger rode Quaterback Junior FRH who is out of Bonita by Bonheur by Brentano II!<\/p>\n

Other Hanoverians to compete at Tokyo are Edward Gal’s Total US (Totilas \/ Sir Donnerhall \/ Don Schufro), American star, Sabine Schut-Kery rides Sanceo by San Remo, who is by Sandro Hit out of a Donnerhall mare.<\/p>\n
