Director of the Westfalien State Stud from 1966 to 1995.

Dr Gerd Lehmann was born near the famous Trakehnen Stud. Like so many others his family was forced to flee to the West at the end of the Second World War. Lehmann graduated from school in Heilbronn and began an apprenticeship at a farm before studying agriculture first in Nürtingen, and later in Giessen. Until his retirement in 1995 Dr Lehmann had a strong influence on the Westfalian breeding and was a significant contributor to the worldwide success of the breeding programme.

In 1995 he was honoured with a special Rider Medal in Gold by the German FN for his services to the German breeding.
