2022 has been a great year for the black stallion Dominator 2000 Z with two 5* wins on the Global Champions circuit. In May he won the Grand Prix in Hamburg and in June, the GP in Stockholm, before going on to compete in Herning as part of the German team. He now has winnings of almost a million euros, €965,077 to be precise.

On 2021 BN list of jumping stallions was Dominator 2000 Z was ranked eleventh. Here is a real five-star winner, who is also proving very popular, very very popular, as a sire. He travelled to Doha in 2021, winning the 5* Grand Prix with Christian Ahlmann to bring his earnings to €413,195. At Aachen, Dominator was 2nd in the 1.55m Grand Prix, and then went on to place 2nd again in the Sires Championship at Lanaken in September 2021 – where his son, Querido (Chellano Z) was the 5yo World Champion.

Dominator is the product of the meeting of two studbooks in a classic fusion. He is by the Selle Français Diamant de Sémilly, out of the Holsteiner mare, Cephale (Cassini I / Franklin).

I was lucky enough to catch up with the breeders, the Foriers family. They were very generous, driving for an hour from Belgium to meet me in Holland, in Den Bosch. The founding father of the 2000 stud, Tony Foriers, his son, Davy, and daughter-in-law, Kelly Bergmans who was also translator.

“It began with my father-in-law, Tony, he was involved in riding horses all his life, and we started Stud2000 in 2016, but we were already breeding, and we went to the auction at Zangersheide, and he sold horses there. He was also a rider, he was riding eventing.”

When you set up the stud, what were you aiming to breed?

“We started the stud because of Dominator. Everything started with him. We sold 50% of him to Zangersheide, but everything is because of him.”

Can you tell me a little about the mare family that he comes from?

“Tony went to Germany with some friends, looking for a good mare. He saw Cephale 2000, and he said – that is the mare I want to breed with. He brought her home and so Dominator was born in 2010.”

Cephale

The Holsteiner mare, Cephale is by the great Cassini I out of Nephale who is by Franklin (a son of the Thoroughbred, Feenspross) out of a Caretino mare.

“Cephale looked good jumping a fence and we took her to Diamant de Sémilly, for the power. Cephale is now the mother of three approved stallions, the other two are Karman 2000 Z (Kannan) who is at Zangersheide, and Avenger Z by Agenix du Siegneur who was sold to the VDL stud.”

What was it about Cephale that you liked?

“Her looks, and she had a lot of blood, a lot of power, that’s what I liked. I love Cassini I – that’s why I bought her.”

How big is your stud?

“We have about 50 horses now.”

Why did you go to France for the sire of Dominator, what was it about Diamant?

“We liked Diamant for his power, and it is always a good combination, French and Holstein blood. It’s also a feeling that you have when you choose a stallion – now we are using some different stallions, Heartbreaker, Chacco-Blue, Agenix, Comme il Faut as well as Diamant. We use good stallions and we only breed them to good mares.”

Dominator in action

Like so many good stallions, the feeling is that Dominator needs a mare with blood, but there is no doubting his capacity to breed power and scope.
